The Jubilee Spring Concert of the Silesian University of Technology is behind us
It was an extraordinary Jubilee Spring Concert of the Silesian University of Technology. This year, in the company of musical ensembles of the Silesian University of Technology and the star of the evening – Justyna Steczkowska, the academic community celebrated 80 years of the University’s activity.
This evening will long remain in the memory of students and employees of the Silesian University of Technology who took part in the Jubilee Spring Concert. The guests in the hall of the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra were welcomed by the host – the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, Prof. Marek Pawełczyk.
- “Today we invite you to enjoy the Concert, we will have another opportunity to celebrate our anniversary in a few days, on May 22. We would like to invite you to the ceremony, which will take place in the Education and Congress Centre of the Silesian University of Technology, during which we will summarize 80 years of the history of our University” – said the Rector.
Among the audience were outstanding personalities from the world of science, politics, self-government, and business, who together with the Silesian University of Technology wanted to celebrate a round Jubilee.
The President of the City of Katowice, Marcin Krupa, also spoke on the stage.
- “I am glad that I can celebrate this round Jubilee of the Silesian University of Technology, especially that 25 years ago I obtained here Master’s degree in engineering” - he said. – “I am aware, as many of us, that 80 years of the history of the Silesian University of Technology is 80 years of the history of the development of the research potential of the university, but also of the development of the entire region. I cannot imagine the future of the region without the Silesian University of Technology.” – he added.
The most important element of yesterday’s celebration was the concert divided into two parts. The first one featured ensembles operating at the Silesian University of Technology – the “Dąbrowiacy” Academic Dance Ensemble, the Academic Music Ensemble with the orchestra and the Silesian University of Technology Academic Choir.
The finale of the first part of the concert featured “Mazur” from Stanisław Moniuszko’s opera “Straszny Dwór.” The work was performed jointly by the Silesian University of Technology Academic Choir and the Academic Music Ensemble conducted by Tomasz Giedwiłło.
In the second part, the phenomenal Justyna Steczkowska, who just after the performance in the Eurovision final flew to Poland to sing for our audience, appeared on the stage, The artist joined the wishes for the academic community of the Silesian University of Technology and delighted the audience with her voice. She even invited the Rector, Prof Marek Pawełczyk, to perform one of the songs.
The jubilee concert would not have taken place without the participation of partners and sponsors.
The patrons of the 80th anniversary of the Silesian University of Technology were Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Ministry of Industry, Silesian Voivode, Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship, Mayor of Katowice, and Mayor of Gliwice.
The partners of the 80th anniversary of the Silesian University of Technology were: The Upper Silesian-Zagłębie Metropolis, the City of Katowice, the City of Gliwice, the Katowice Special Economic Zone, the Upper Silesian Aviation Society SA, GSU SA, AmiSter sp. z o.o. and the Investment Funds Society Skarbiec SA.
