High quality of the research infrastructure of the Silesian University of Technology
The Ministry of Science and Higher Education has published the results of the call for proposals for including strategic research infrastructure on the Polish Research Infrastructure Map. Among the 104 highest-rated initiatives selected in the call for proposals, there were as many as six initiatives from the Silesian University of Technology.
The Polish Research Infrastructure Map brings together infrastructures with the highest potential for scientific excellence, consolidating research potential in areas important for the development of science and the country. As part of the update, a review of infrastructures present on the Polish Research Infrastructure Map since 2020 was carried out and a recruitment of new infrastructures was carried out.
Out of the 70 infrastructures entered on the Map in 2020, 61 remain. The ministry received 192 new applications, 183 of which passed the formal assessment and were sent for substantive assessment. The 104 highest-rated infrastructures received a recommendation to be included in the Map. In total, the updated Map includes 165 infrastructures.
The infrastructures were divided, following the classification used by the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures, into six research areas: technical sciences and power engineering, earth and environmental sciences, biological, medical, and agricultural sciences, physical and engineering sciences, social sciences and humanities, and digital research infrastructures.
Among the 104 highest-rated initiatives selected in the call for proposals, there were as many as six initiatives from the Silesian University of Technology. This is excellent information confirming the quality of the research infrastructure at our University.
Among the recognized initiatives in the field of technical sciences and power engineering were: The Research and Development Centre for Green Technologies for a Circular Economy, operating in cooperation with the Silesian University of Technology, Poznań University of Technology, Łódź University of Technology and the Institute of Catalysis and Surface Chemistry; the Centre for Material Innovations for Energy Conversion and Storage at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the Institute of Physics – Centre for Science and Education at the Silesian University of Technology; and the Silesian Research Centre for Innovative and Sustainable Civil Engineering - SCenBud at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology.
In the field of Earth and Environmental Sciences, the Centre for Geochronology at the Institute of Physics – Centre for Science and Education at the Silesian University of Technology was recognised.
Infrastructure valuable to the physical and engineering sciences was also highlighted. In this field, The European HealthTech Innovation Centre (EHTIC) and the Silesian Laboratory of Aviation Technologies have been recognized.
