The HEET II project awarded at the International Competition of Inventions and Innovations

The HEET II project implemented by the Silesian University of Technology with the KOMAG Institute of Mining Technology and SWE Sp. z o. o.  was awarded a platinum medal at the PRIX EIFFEL International Competition of Inventions and Innovations.

The research project called - HEET II "Innovative high efficiency power system for machines and devices, increasing the level of work safety in underground mining excavations", concerns an innovative power system for machines and devices that increases the level of work safety in underground mining excavations. An eleven-person team of employees of the Department of Power Electronics, Electric Drives and Robotics of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology is involved in the project and is responsible, among others, for: for the design and construction of power electronic converters of the power supply system. The project manager at the Silesian University of Technology is dr hab. Eng. Marcin Kasprzak, prof. SUT

– The developed system can be used both underground and on the surface to supply electricity to devices in our surroundings. The innovation of the project includes, among others: on the use of wireless electricity transmission, the so-called capacitive method, which allows powering electrical devices in motion. This is a cheaper equivalent of wireless induction power supply, which we know, for example, from wireless chargers for electric cars, or more closely to us, chargers for mobile phones or toothbrushes - said dr hab. Eng. Marcin Kasprzak, prof. SUT

The project was awarded a platinum medal at the PRIX EIFFEL International Competition of Inventions and Innovations. – The jury appreciated the unprecedented scope and scale of the solution, i.e. the use of capacitive power supply for a suspended mining railway in motion, on a test section of approximately 30 meters, in difficult mining conditions and in compliance with mining standards. It particularly appreciated the composite, durable, suspended rail with built-in capacitor linings that transmit electricity to the moving train tractor. This rail was patented by the Silesian University of Technology, ITG KOMAG and SWE - said dr hab. Eng. Marcin Kasprzak, prof. SUT

The platinum medal is not the first award for this project. In June this year, it was recognized at the 16th International Fair of Inventions and Innovations INTARG 2023 in Katowice, where it received a gold medal.

The HEET II research project lasted over 3 years and was financed by the European Union under the Coal and Steel Research Fund.
