The greatest lesson in materials engineering
On March 17th, the National Materials Engineering Day is celebrated. The event is an initiative of 21 scientific units from all over Poland, which aims to popularize materials engineering. The Silesian University of Technology also took part in it.
The Faculty of Materials Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology in Katowice organized the event under the slogan "Secrets of materials and how to discover them". In Gliwice, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the Institute of Physics also prepared a number of attractions for this occasion.
On the occasion of the National Materials Engineering Day, it was decided to beat the Polish Record in the largest material engineering lesson. Many entities and universities have applied to participate, e.g. Polish Materials Society, AGH University of Science and Technology, University of Technology and Humanities, Częstochowa University of Technology, Gdańsk University of Technology, Cracow University of Technology, Łódź University of Technology, Poznań University of Technology, Rzeszów University of Technology, Silesian University of Technology, Warsaw University of Technology, University of Silesia , the Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Fundamental Technological Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
Each participant had to start the lesson after 10:00 am and end it before 11:30 am. Each lecture had to gather at least 30 people. The largest number of listeners gathered in the halls of AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków - 400 people. Participation in the lesson itself did not guarantee breaking the Polish Record, because the key element was a practical test that checked the level of knowledge acquired during the lesson. For each location, the questions were varied in terms of the subject matter of the lecture.
After the event, the organizers sent full documentation from each entity participating in the event to the Records Office. After carefully checking all documentation and recordings, the final result was reduced by the number of people who engaged in conversation during the events or used mobile phones. The total number of participants who took part in the largest material engineering lesson was 1097 people.
