The future of post-mining areas - interdisciplinary student workshops
On April 29th, the Student Creativity Centre hosted an interdisciplinary student vision workshop devoted to the future of post-mining areas in Silesia. The meeting was organized as part of a research and development project entitled: Regional Observatory of the Transformation process – ROPT 2.0.
The leader of the project is the Marshal’s Office of the Silesian Voivodeship, and partners are the University of Economics in Katowice and the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology. The aim of the project is to develop by interdisciplinary student teams analyses, studies, and variant strategic and spatial concepts for the post-mining areas of the Silesian Voivodeship.
The event was attended by 60 students, who, under the guidance of the leaders from both universities, worked out visions of the development of the area after the Bobrek mine in Bytom and Piast mine in Bieruń. The project leader is Prof. Adam Drobniak from the University of Economics, and from the Faculty of Architecture the project is led by Dr Hab. Michał Stangel and Helena Szewioła MA. During the workshop arch. Michał Gałuszka presented the possibilities of using artificial intelligence in urban design. Students have defined initial social, spatial, and economic programs that will be developed in detail by the end of the semester. The final results will be presented in June, in the Marshal’s Office of the Silesian Voivodeship and during the SBL congress in Bieruń.
