The future of aviation and flight safety at the Silesian University of Technology

On the 28th of January 2026 in the Hall at 8, Krasińskiego Street in Katowice, the Conference on Flight Safety and the Setting of Tasks in the Field of Aviation Training for 2026 was held. The Conference gathered a very large group of students of aviation specialties carried out in the field of Transport and Aviation and Space Engineering.

The event was opened by Dr Hab. Eng. Marcin Staniek, Prof. SUT, Vice-Rector for Collaboration with the Civic and Economic Environment of SUT., who stressed the strategic importance of aviation education for the development of competences of future engineers. Then Dr Hab. Eng. Grzegorz Sierpiński, Prof. SUT, Dean of the Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering, stressed the high value of aviation specialties implemented in the field of Transport. The ceremonial part included the awarding of commemorative badges and diplomas to aviation graduates from 2025, which was a recognition of their commitment and achievements.

The substantive part of the conference focused on the summary of the 2025 training year and setting priorities for 2026. Dr Hab. Eng. Jarosław Kozuba, Prof. SUT, Director of the Civil Aviation Personnel Education Centre for Central and Eastern Europe at the Silesian University of Technology, presented the main conclusions on flight safety and the quality of the training process, and emphasized the importance of a systemic approach to risk management, security culture, and improvement. The key role of the system in quality management (QMS) in maintaining the desired level of safety of aviation organizations, integration of industry requirements in education programs and the need to further strengthen practical components: modern methods of simulator training, laboratory classes and standardization of operational and technical competencies was pointed out.

In the area of tasks for 2026, it was emphasized, among others, the development of skills in the field of human factors, improvement of procedures (SOP) and event analysis, digitization of selected elements of the didactic process, as well as deepening cooperation with the aviation industry in order to better match learning outcomes to real market needs. The discussion on industry-education relations confirmed the importance of close coordination of activities and knowledge transfer between the economic environment and academia.

The conference showed the strong commitment of the entire staff of the Silesian University of Technology Civil Aviation Centre in the education process and joint, consistent actions to improve the quality and safety in aviation. The high attendance of students and active participation in discussions confirm that the Silesian University of Technology remains a leader in educating specialists for the aviation sector, effectively combining a reliable scientific base with practical preparation for work in the dynamically developing industry.
