The event "We support sport scientifically", or what will result from mutual visits of engineers and medics?
Medics will host engineers, and engineers will host medics... And we can already assure you that these mutual visits will result in a huge dose of knowledge about technologies, health and sport. We invite secondary school students to participate in the meeting taking place on May 16th in Katowice and on May 17th in Zabrze as part of the "We support sport scientifically" event.
The participants of the event will be offered workshops and lectures on health, science and sport, which will be conducted by scientists from the Silesian University of Technology, the Medical University of Silesia and the Academy of Physical Education in Poznań.
Biomechanical support for running training and how engineers can support athletes will be the topic of the lecture by prof. Robert Michnik from the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology. The scientists of the Medical University of Silesia will talk about the benefits, but also the risks associated with practicing sport and how it affects health: prof. Oskar Kowalski in the lecture "What is terrible about sport?" and Prof. Damian Kusz in the lecture "The influence of sport on the musculoskeletal system". There will also be issues combining science and dance. This will be related to the lecture "Biomechanics of dance", conducted by prof. Joanna Gorwa from the University of Physical Education in Poznań.
Participants of the event will be able to take part in resuscitation workshops and learn the principles of first aid. In addition, they will find out what they know about running training and take advantage of the advice of Aleksandra Bańbor - trainer, multiple medallist of the Polish Academic Championships, competitor of many sports disciplines. Sports and dance workshops will be conducted by members of the Academic Dance Group "Dąbrowiacy" of the Silesian University of Technology.
Classes will be held on two dates and locations:
- May 16, 2023, in Katowice (Faculty of Medical Sciences in Katowice, Medical University of Silesia, 15, Medyków Street),
- May 17, 2023, in Zabrze (European HealthTech Innovation Centre - EHTIC, 40a, Roosevelta Street).
The event is aimed to secondary school students.
The organizers of the event are the Silesian University of Technology, the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice, the Science Popularization Centre of the Silesian University of Technology and the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology. The partner of the event is EURECA-PRO. The event is organized as part of the project "After COVID - Popularization of science and sport as an element of mitigating the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic".
