It was attended by 61 students from China who will study at four faculties of the Silesian University of Technology: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry as well as Faculty of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science.

The European Institute of Yanshan University was established in February 2021 by the Silesian University of Technology and Yanshan University from China. Its goal is the joint education of Polish, Chinese and international students.

- This is a great opportunity, especially for our University, a chance in terms of internationalization. We acquired a significant group of 61 students from China, who began their education at the Silesian University of Technology as part of a joint program. This is the first such initiative that we managed to implement as a joint venture with a foreign university. For now, we educate in five fields of study, but we will try to expand this offer and we hope that, in addition to Chinese and Polish students, students from other countries will also join - said the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, Prof. Arkadiusz Mężyk.

Students who decide to study at the European Institute of Yanshan University will receive a graduation certificate and a bachelor's degree from Yanshan University and an engineering diploma from the Silesian University of Technology.

– The double diploma model is currently being strongly developed in many schools around the world. (…) These are modern forms of education that give a great opportunity also to our students, who, with a diploma from a Chinese university, have a chance for an interesting professional career in the future and the opportunity to cooperate primarily with Chinese companies, added the Rector.

Cooperation with the Silesian University of Technology is also an opportunity for the development of education in China - stressed the rector of Yanshan University Zhao Dingxuan in a pre-recorded speech. – I would like to congratulate you and wish you a successful functioning of the European Institute. Secretary General Xi Jinping stressed: “We support the opening of education and cooperate with world-leading universities." The Secretary-General's speech provides a basic guidance for China-foreign cooperation in school management and shows the direction of development. In 2019, our University decided that the goal of its development will be to create a national first-class university and a world-renowned research university. The establishment of the European Institute is an important event in the development of the university - said the rector of Yanshan University Zhao Dingxuan.
