The doctoral students inaugurated the academic year
On October 21st, DocDay 2025 took place at the Centre for New Technologies, during which doctoral students of the first year took the oath. Thus, the academic year for doctoral students was inaugurated.
DocDay 2025 was organized by the University Self-Government Council of the Doctoral Students. The official inauguration of the event was attended by the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Marek Pawełczyk.
- There are new challenges ahead of you. Therefore, as Silesian University of Technology, we try to support the activities of doctoral students in every dimension – by the possibility of increasing scholarships, participation in scientific internships, but also pro-quality programs, thanks to which the results and ideas obtained in scientific activity can receive appropriate support, for example in the form of grants. I also encourage you to use the opportunity to establish mutual contacts with international partners, which we do not lack, and the many opportunities offered by the European University EURECA-PRO - said Rector Marek Pawełczyk.
The event was addressed mainly to first-year doctoral students. Participants of the event could learn more about the activities of the Doctoral School of the Silesian University of Technology, how to keep documentation and prepare for the mid-term evaluation, as well as about opportunities for PhD students related to the EURECA-PRO project.
- The Doctoral School of the Silesian University of Technology has increased the number of places for doctoral students, so I congratulate all who are among the 120 participants. Last year it was 70 people, so the number of PhD students is substantial. You are the future of the Silesian University of Technology, but also of science in Poland and in the world. By taking the oath, you have become 100% scientists. It is a great joy, but also a responsibility. Think about what you want to discover, communicate, and deliver. Please treat the possibility of publishing articles not as a duty, but a privilege. It is a great thing to reach your goals and be able to publish your scientific results as an author – recalled the Director of the Doctoral School Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Krzysztof Fujarewicz.
In the further part of DocDay 2025 there were also talks about the possibility of financing research and scientific activities and the activity of the University Self-Government Council of the Doctoral Students of the Silesian University of Technology. The participants also had the opportunity to listen to the lecture delivered by Prof. Dr Hab Jarosław Śmieja.
- Doctoral studies are certainly a new stage in everyone’s life. It is often a combination of teaching others, self-development, and the search for excellence in a given research area. There is also personal and professional life, which is why combining all these areas is extremely difficult. With this event, we wanted to introduce first-year doctoral students to the walls of our University and help them to find the way around the University as soon as possible. That is why I am all the more than happy that about a hundred people applied for DocDay - says the chairman of the Chairman of The University Self-Government Council of the Doctoral Students, MSc. Szymon Ruczka.
On the same day, the Intercultural DocDay was also held, which was to serve the integration of the entire community of doctoral students of the Silesian University of Technology. There were no shortage of pizza talks, games, and quizzes with prizes.
- Among PhD students there are many people from different parts of the world, so we wanted to introduce them to our culture, give them the opportunity to talk about their culture, but above all help everyone integrate and just have a nice time - summed up Szymon Ruczka.
