The Cross of Merit for the director of the Academic “Remont” Theatre  

Grzegorz Kempinsky, director and artistic director of the Academic “Remont” Theatre of the Silesian University of Technology, received the Cross of Merit granted by the President of the Republic of Poland. The ceremonial presentation of this unique award took place on the 12th of November, during the premiere of the performance “Love in Auschwitz”, written and directed by Grzegorz Kempinsky.  

Grzegorz Kempinsky was awarded the Bronze Cross of Merit for his entire activity, not only artistic, but also beyond his work in the theatre. The artistic director and director of the Academic “Remont” Theatre says that he is a social activist, for many years he has been organizing performances and running theatres for the lonely and excluded, he regularly engages in charity activities, organizes collections supporting animal shelters. He is an ambassador of Polish culture abroad, for over 10 years he has been the head of the student theatre of the Silesian University of Technology, he is the organizer of the MrOFFisko Theatre, thanks to which the Gliwice audience regularly watches off-performances from all over Poland.  

– It is a great pride for me because this order is awarded by the President of the Republic of Poland, which is of great importance to me. Certainly, such a distinction also gives the glitz and prestige to our Silesian University of Technology. First of all, I would like to thank the team of “Remont” Theatre and Kasia Jankowska, the director of Mrowisko, thanks to whom culture is present every day in our Silesian University of Technology – the awarded director said with emotion.  

– I am very proud of our Academic “Remont” Theatre.  Grzegorz Kempinsky, who leads it, is a world-class director who is involved in many interesting projects, and also touches on difficult but very important topics such as problems of young people – emphasized Katarzyna Jankowska, director of the Student Culture Centre Mrowisko. – I would also like to thank our faithful audience, among which there are many students of the Silesian University of Technology, who appreciate us for what we do – she added.  

Grzegorz Kempinsky’s play “Love in Auschwitz” deals with the subject of extermination in an original and completely unexpected way. After the performance, the audience was lost in thoughts and afterwards gave the actors thunderous applause and standing ovation. All those interested in the repertoire of the Academic “Remont” Theatre are encouraged to follow the theatre’s social media profile.
