The cooperation between the Silesian University of Technology and FLUOR SA

On April 14th this year, another training room was opened. It was adapted for the needs of conducting trainings and improving professional competences, with particular emphasis on training in REVIT, Inventor, SMART 3D, AutoCAD 3D programs, communication, analytical, professional, IT, language and entrepreneurship competences. It was co-financed under the Global University Sponsorship Program (GUSP) by Fluor SA. 

The cooperation between the Silesian University of Technology and FLUOR SA has been carried out for 20 years and concerns many areas that serve the development of the region and benefit the Silesian University of Technology and the company.  

The implementation of the Cooperation Agreement so far, the purpose of which is to use the experience and scientific achievements of the Silesian University of Technology as well as the potential and position of Fluor SA, has brought results that are interesting for both parties on the basis of jointly agreed directions of cooperation: 

  • mutual cooperation regarding the development, promotion and learning of new methodologies in the field of technical sciences and management as well as industrial technologies, 
  • exchange of information and experience on novelties in the field of design, delivery completion, construction management, maintenance and project management, 
  • appointing teams of specialists to conduct analyses and develop strategic technical and organizational solutions, 
  • exchange of experience in the field of knowledge management, with particular emphasis on the issue of competence development, 
  • agreeing on the topics of engineering projects, master's and research theses, 
  • mutual presentation of achievements, 
  • cooperation in developing diploma study programs, 
  • cooperation regarding the employment of graduates of the Silesian University of Technology and the implementation of workshops in the field of competence development in order to facilitate their entry into the labour market.         

 

Fluor2

The cooperation was carried out in the following areas: 

1. Implementation PhD. 

PhD title: Research on modelling and simulation of the production process - caprolactone 

PhD student: MSc. Magdalena Sitko 

Supervisor: professor, Ph.D Eng. Anna Chrobok

The doctorate is carried out at the Faculty of Chemistry, in the Department of Chemical Organic Technology and Petrochemistry. The PhD student receives a scholarship from the Silesian University of Technology and Fluor. 

The work concerns basic and development research on the technology of obtaininge -caprolactone. This part of the research is conducted at the Department of Chemical Organic Technology and Petrochemistry of Silesian University of Technology, while work on modelling and simulation of the production process is carried out by a PhD student at Fluor. 

2. Apprenticeships and internships.  

  • Internships as part of the project " Silesian University of Technology as a modern European technical university " co-financed by the European Union, mainly for students of Environmental Engineering, Power Engineering, Mechanics and Mechanical Engineering, Sanitary Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemical Technology, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Mechatronics. 
  • Apprenticeships resulting from the study program for students of all faculties - free of charge, lasting four weeks.

3. Workshops and training for students. 

  • EPC investment project management. 
  • Engineering in practice. 

During the classes, students and employees of Fluor SA developed innovative attitudes, created new technological and organizational ideas, improved their knowledge and skills in the modern labour market. Some of the lectures were conducted in English by specialists from the office in Gliwice. 

Groups are created according to the needs of students. 

 4. Certified training for employees of the Silesian University of Technology in the use of the REVIT environment enabling conducting classes for students. 

5. Cooperation within the Global University Sponsorship Program (GUSP). 

  • Adaptation of two training rooms for the purpose of conducting trainings improving communication, analytical, professional, IT, language and entrepreneurship competences, with particular emphasis on training in REVIT, Inventor, SMART 3D, AutoCAD 3D.  Equipment with furniture, computers.  
  • Financial and substantive support of the 19th edition of the "My Idea for Business" competition.
    - The competition aims to stimulate innovation and entrepreneurship by creating an opportunity to submit ideas for implementable business ventures that use environmentally friendly modern technologies, create new products and create new jobs. 
    - Business plans are evaluated based on the criteria of min. innovation, purposefulness of the project, feasibility of assumptions and financial analysis. Representatives of FLUOR SA are members of the jury of the competition awarding prizes and distinctions. 
  • Engineering and language training for students of the Silesian University of Technology Implementation of courses in accordance with current trends on the labour market, e.g., AutoCAD, Inventor, Revit, English and Polish. Groups will be created according to the needs of students. So far, the training has been carried out with EU funds, and the support has been dedicated only to students of the last 4 semesters of the first cycle and the entire second cycle. The project gave a chance to support students of lower semesters, including those of Ukrainian nationality and those with disabilities. 
  • Training and integration trip for students of the Silesian University of Technology. “Young, Entrepreneurial, Creative" dedicated to students of the Silesian University of Technology, including students with disabilities and students of Ukrainian nationality.
    The training and integration trip "Young, Enterprising, Creative" is dedicated to students, including people with disabilities and Ukrainians. As part of the trip, numerous workshops and training in soft skills, entrepreneurship, project management, legal aspects of the functioning of people with disabilities on the labour market, as well as savoir-vivre towards people with disabilities are planned. All training will be interpreted into sign language. The funds will be used for travel and accommodation. 

6. The company's participation in the Engineering Job, Entrepreneurship, Technology and Accessibility Fair. 
Presentation of the professional development offer for representatives of the academic community, including cooperation as part of diploma theses and research. 

Involving company representatives in the advisory zone, consulting application documents and simulating job interviews. 

  7. “Friendly Competition" - an annual competition organized by Fluor SA, in which teams are invited, including students of the Silesian University of Technology.  

 8. Recruitment, staff development. 

  • Fluor SA provides job, apprenticeship and internship offers to the Student Career Office on an ongoing basis. The Career Office sent over a dozen candidates to work at FLUOR SA.  
  • The Silesian University of Technology provides information on post-graduate studies, courses, trainings with the possibility of creating studies specifically addressed to employees of FLUOR SA
