The Centre for Renewable Energy Sources and Hydrogen Technologies in Rybnik is gaining momentum
All formalities were completed - in February, an agreement was signed between the Silesian Voivodeship and the Silesian University of Technology for the implementation of the project "Centre of Renewable Energy Sources and Hydrogen Technologies in Rybnik". The value of the project is over PLN 27 million.
The main objective of the project is to support research and development of the process of fair transformation in the region, in accordance with the European Union's energy and climate objectives. The activities and results of research on RES and hydrogen technologies generated by the Centre for Renewable Energy Sources and Hydrogen Technologies in Rybnik will be of significant importance for the entire region.
Research on specific issues of production, storage, and industrial use of cheap, zero-emission renewable energy, including “green hydrogen,” is crucial for identifying possible pathways for an effective transformation of an economy currently based largely on fossil fuels.
The Head of the project is Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Janusz Kotowicz, and deputy Dr Hab. Zygmunt Łukaszczyk, Prof. SUT, director of the Branch of Silesian University of Technology in Rybnik.
The activities of the Centre for Renewable Energy Sources and Hydrogen Technologies will be based on four pillars:
• Hydrogen Technology Laboratory
• Laboratory “Eko - Dom Energia”
• Mobile Laboratory of Photovoltaic Panel Diagnostics
• Centre of Competence for Renewable Energy Sources and Hydrogen Technologies
– The authorities of Rybnik declared cooperation with our research centre during last year’s meeting, which took place as part of the Silesian-Małopolska Hydrogen Valley in the Rybnik campus, especially in the scope of the Hydrogen Technology Laboratory and Eco-Dom Energia – says Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Janusz Kotowicz.
– Cooperation with the local government of Rybnik is arranged in many areas, as part of the Centre for Renewable Energy Sources and Hydrogen Technologies, Silesian University of Technology will obtain from the city a building plot for the construction of the “Eco- Dom Energia” Laboratory – adds Dr. Hab Zygmunt Łukaszczyk, Prof. SUT.
The heads of individual laboratories are respectively: Prof SUT. Leszek Remiorz, Prof. SUT Jan Kaczmarczyk (from the Faculty of Energy and Environmental Engineering)
- Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Damian Grzechca from the Faculty of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science and Dr Eng. Aldona Rosner from a branch of the Silesian University of Technology in Rybnik.
