The basketball team of AZS Politechnika Śląska in its premiere season placed seventh in the second league of women. The team, whose coach is Patryk Niczke, wants to continue to develop and is already thinking about the next competitions.

The team of our University in its debut gathered extremely valuable experience. In sixteen meetings it scored four victories, including three on their own floor. However, the team building stage is a long process and the result, in the trainer’s assessment, is only of secondary importance.

- We survived a lot as a team – says Patryk Niczke, coach of AZS Silesian University of Technology. “We have accumulated a lot of experience, which allows us to really think about further league play at a gradually higher level. Of course, these experiences are very different – after all, not everything was always perfect. In the end, the positive ones definitely prevail and this season we judge as really successful. I am proud of the character and commitment of the girls. The whole team deserves great recognition. The girls always showed their hearts, they always fought, and, in addition, they were able to do it in an organized way, with discipline, consistency and despite sometimes very difficult moments, they were able to win.

The coach is aware of the shortcomings of his team members.

- We definitely need to improve the effectiveness in all types of throws – says Patryk Niczke. It’s an element that has disappointed us too often. Unfortunately, there were games in which we scored less than 50 points. And not because of the perfect defence of our opponents... The lack of throwing effectiveness hurt us the most in the context of losing matches – especially those in which the difference was small.

In the next few weeks, the coach will focus on academic games. March 16 is the final of the Silesian Academic Championships, in which representatives of the Silesian University of Technology will fight for promotion to the Polish Academic Championships.

- We would like to advance to the AMP (Polish Academic Championships) finals, as in recent years, but this year it will be an extremely difficult task - says the trainer. “In the league team, our efforts will focus on further building a stronger team, already with the next season in mind. We are looking for new, valuable players who will be able to bring quality to the team that will allow us to win many more matches. That is why we invite interested girls who played or play basketball.
