The Association of PR and Promotion of Polish Universities “PRom” awarded the Silesian University of Technology for the project “You praise someone else’s, but you do not know your own Fryze.” in the category of Creation. This year’s competition attracted exceptional interest from the academic community, and the jury included outstanding personalities connected with communication, promotion, and popularization of science. The awarded project is a year-round image-education campaign created by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering on the occasion of the 80th anniversary and 140th anniversary of the birth of Prof. Stanisław Fryze.

The PROM Association awarded the project for original, creative, and inspiring promotional activities, which are distinguished by their fresh approach, aesthetics, audience engagement, and the power of communication. The award ceremony took place during a gala in Krakow.

The foundation of the concept of the project is storytelling based on an authentic but not obvious story. Prof. Stanisław Fryze, convinced by the then rector of the newly established Silesian University of Technology to take over a Department in Gliwice, brought from Lviv... a cow to provide the family with access to dairy products in post-war Poland. The cow became the heroine of many anecdotes and stories still alive in the memories of the professor’s pupils. Therefore, the symbol of the campaign is the cow as a starting point for the story of great science.

The aim of the campaign was to introduce the figure of the creator of power theory using modern tools and various communication channels, in a way that is engaging and close to the young generation. Thanks to the use of AI and the professor’s digital avatar, a film was created, introducing, among others, his extraordinary character. A film reconstruction of the professor’s lecture and a student film were also made, presenting a symbolic “going out into the world” with a cow who helped “collect hay” during the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity. The project included a number of events and actions taking place at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in the jubilee year. The campaign has had a wide response in the media, including the national ones.

The author of the concept and initiator of the awarded project is Daria Wojtasz from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, who coordinated the implementation of all activities together with a team composed of representatives of various units of the Silesian University of Technology, which includes: Anna Piwowar, Rafał Setlak, Marcin FICE, Dariusz Grabowski, Tomasz Kraszewski, Marcin Szczygieł, Renata Frączek, Anna Świderska and Zofia Cichowska.

As many as 93 projects from all over Poland were submitted to this year’s edition of the competition of the Association of PR and Promotion of Polish Universities “PRom”.
