The 80th Anniversary of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering

Conference, panel and poster sessions, presentations of research and teaching activities and alumni meetings - the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering celebrated the 80th anniversary of the Faculty. Commemorative medals and diplomas were also awarded during the event.

The celebrations began on May 25th. On the second day of the event, a conference was held during which the history of the Faculty was presented; the organizers also prepared panel discussions and plenary sessions.

- “The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering is one of the four faculties that formed the Silesian University of Technology. Today, in the hall we see many distinguished graduates who came to meet their colleagues, hear how the faculty is developing, and what its plans are for the future. We also host many friends from the socio-economic environment. Their presence is proof that the Faculty is very well recognized and respected in the entire community “– said the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, Prof. Marek Pawełczyk.

- “The anniversary is an opportunity to thank the previous and current authorities and the entire faculty community for their commitment and contribution to its development” – adds the Rector.

One of the graduates of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering is the current Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education, Prof. Marek Gzik.

- “I started my studies at the Faculty in 1991, right after graduating from the Automotive Technical Secondary School in Gliwice” - said the Minister. – “After my defence, I received an offer to continue my studies as part of doctoral studies. In total, I was at the Faculty for 20 years. I remember those moments with emotion, I spent the most beautiful years of my life here, I met many wonderful people, professors, co-workers. So the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering is deep in my heart, and I am glad that today I could meet again my teachers, colleagues and friends with whom I have cooperated for years and still cooperate” - emphasized Prof. Marek Gzik.

The former Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, Prof. is also a graduate of the faculty. Arkadiusz Mężyk

- “It’s a really great Faculty, great academic staff and a beautiful tradition. It is one of the first four faculties of the Silesian University of Technology with such deep roots in the pre-war Lviv Polytechnic. In 1945, not only academic teachers but also administrative staff and students came here from Lviv, bringing with them study programs, so we started, one might say, from a higher shelf. Over the course of 80 years, the Faculty has developed greatly from the very beginning it has focused on what is most important, what is most modern, what technological and civilizational development brings” - said Prof. Arkadiusz Mężyk, former Rector and former Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

During the celebration of the 80th anniversary, in addition to panel discussions, poster sessions, presentations by invited guests and memories, the research and teaching activities of the Faculty were also presented. – “The celebration program is extremely rich” – said the Dean, Dr Hab. Eng Marcin Adamiak, Prof. SUT.

- “We also host our industrial partners who presented students with possible career paths in their companies” - he added.

During the 80th  anniversary celebrations, commemorative medals and diplomas were also presented to distinguished graduates and collaborators of the faculty. The celebrations lasted until May 27th.
