The 69th School on Synoptic Mathematics
On August 20th -24th, at the Silesian University of Technology, the 69th edition of the School on Synoptic Mathematics will take place. This year’s conference will be held under the slogan “Completely Different, Yet the Same.”
Schools on Synoptic Mathematics are nationwide conferences, the aim of which is to promote mathematics and mathematical culture, academic tradition. The lectures given at them are devoted to living mathematics, not hidden among formalisms, accessible to non-specialists. The event gathers scientists, teachers, and enthusiasts from all over Poland and is organized by the Centre for Mathematical Culture, this year together with the Silesian University of Technology
The program of this year’s edition includes five days of lectures, a poster session and accompanying events, which will take place in the Education and Congress Centre and the Silesian University of Technology Library. The meetings will cover a wide range of topics, including the mathematical aspects of Dobble game, fractals, Richard Feynman’s riddle, and the links between mathematics and archaeology and literature.
On Friday, August 21, the CEK will also host open lectures (participation in them does not require prior registration for the conference):
- 9:00-9:45 - Zbigniew Marciniak – Lecture by the Winner of the Filca Medal 68 SMP: “Completely different, yet the same: Four examples.”
- 10:00-10:45 - Bartosz Nakręcki – “Plugs, cables and crocodiles or the thing about lambda calculus.”
