The 5th Polish Congress of Mechanics combined with the 25th International Conference on Computer Methods in Mechanics at the Silesian University of Technology is underway

Several hundred specialists dealing with the issues of mechanics and mechanical engineering from Monday are visiting the Silesian University of Technology, which co-organizes the most important scientific events in the field of classical and quantum mechanics: the 5th Polish Congress of Mechanics combined with the 25th International Conference on Computer Methods (PCM-CMM).

During the 4-day congress, scientists present the current state of research in all disciplines of classical and quantum mechanics, mechanics of solids and fluids, computational mechanics, applied mechanics and physics, as well as mechanics and structural engineering. This is the 5th Polish Congress of Mechanics, the event continues the tradition of scientific meetings devoted to mechanics, initiated about 16 years ago during the 1st PCM in Warsaw in 2007.

In turn, the 25th International Conference on Computer Methods in Mechanics continues a 50-year series of conferences devoted to numerical methods and their applications in mechanical problems. Scientific meetings, organized every two years since 1973, are a forum for presenting and discussing new ideas relating to the theoretical foundations and practical applications of computational mechanics.

- This is indeed a very prestigious meeting, every 4 years brings together practically the entire community of scientists operating in the field of broadly understood mechanics and related sciences, which interact in scientific research with mechanics - said prof. Arkadiusz Mężyk, the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, which co-organized the event together with the Polish Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, the Polish Association for Computational Mechanics and the Committee on Mechanics of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

- Various types of fairs play such a role in the economy, this is an opportunity to present research programs, the latest results of scientific research also in the perspective of applications in the economy or in technology - added prof. Włodzimierz Kurnik, former rector of the Warsaw University of Technology, one of the initiators of the congress.

During the combined events, the latest trends and discoveries in the field of mechanics are discussed, and a large part of the topics of lectures and papers is related to medicine.

– Today, widely understood biomedical engineering plays a great role, which was additionally made clear to us by the pandemic – said prof. Michał Kleiber, former president of the Polish Academy of Sciences, chairman of the Polish Committee for UNESCO, chairman of the congress. - Mechanics, and especially fluid mechanics, is crucial, for example, in the construction of medical devices, and the future of medicine is not only traditionally understood diagnostics and therapy, but above all cooperation with other areas of science. Computer methods and mechanics have a significant impact on how healthy we will be and how effectively we are treated - emphasized the professor.

The meetings take place from the 4th to 7th September 2023 at the Educational and Congress Centre of the Silesian University of Technology. The honorary patronage over the congress was taken by the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda. The detailed program of the event is available here.
