The 550th birthday of Nicolaus Copernicus at the Ignacy Mine
Astronomical workshops, scientific shows and lectures, and a cosmic cake - the celebrations of the 550th anniversary of the birth of Nicolaus Copernicus will take place in the Ignacy mine in Rybnik. The co-organizer of the event is the Continuing Education Centre of the Silesian University of Technology.
The event will take place on February 19th in the historic Ignacy Mine. The organizers have prepared a number of attractions - there will be scientific shows and lectures, and the participants will even taste a cosmic cake. The day before, on Saturday, February 18th, you will be able to take part in astronomy workshops, see a drone show and virtual reality technology. An exhibition of rocket modelers will be available in the building of the former compressor station. In the Kościuszko shaft headroom, the exhibition of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw "Nicholas Copernicus - life and work" will be presented.
The official celebration of the birthday of Nicolaus Copernicus will take place on Sunday, February 19th. On this day, there are a steam engine show, lectures by guests from the Silesian Planetarium and even a show of dances and music from the Renaissance era.
The organizers of the event are: Polish Society of Astronomy Enthusiasts, Silesian branch, Continuing Education Centre - a branch of the Silesian University of Technology in Rybnik and the Małolata Technical Academy.
