The 4th International Congress on the Quality of Education has begun
The event, organized by universities forming part of the Academic Consortium-Katowice City of Science, will last until October 24th. At the Silesian University of Technology, the event began in the Senate Hall with a solemn meeting of the Education Council and the University Council for the Education Quality Assurance System.
The International Congress on the Quality of Education brings together people interested in issues related to the improvement of education quality assurance systems, innovations in academic teaching, as well as the development of didactic competences of academic teachers.
The events at the Silesian University of Technology were inaugurated by the Meeting of the Education Council and the University Council for the Education Quality Assurance System. The event was attended by, among others: the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Marek Pawełczyk, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Education, Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Anna Chrobok and Director of the College of Studies Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Beata Orlińska.
- This meeting was exceptional, because the Chairman of the Polish Accreditation Committee, Prof. Janusz Uriasz also participates in it. We had the opportunity to discuss a number of issues related to quality assurance in education, especially regarding the possibility of obtaining a joint or double degree of study. The event was attended by representatives of all faculties, including Vice-Deans for Student Affairs and Education - explains Prof Beata Orlińska.
- It is a great honour for us to have been able to host Prof. Janusz Uriasz, but also a great opportunity to get information from the person who knows the most about accreditation – says Rector Marek Pawełczyk.
Another event included in the program of the Congress was the presentation of university-wide didactic projects, which took place at the Student Creativity Centre of the Silesian University of Technology. It is run by of the Director of the Centre for Modern Education, Dr in Social Sciences Anna Waligóra.
- During our meeting, the participants presented the assumptions and results of didactic projects implemented at the Silesian University of Technology, of which there are as many as 40 – says Director Anna Waligóra.
The meeting was attended by, among others, the Director of the Project Management Centre, Dr Eng. Marcin Górski, Prof. SUT and the Deputy Director College of Studies Dr Hab. Eng. Jarosław Brodny, Prof. SUT.
- The International Congress on the Quality of Education is an important and prestigious event because it emphasizes the role of the education process in higher education. The quality of education is crucial – it is impossible to build an economy based on knowledge without excellent staff – explains Prof. Jarosław Brodny – Silesian University of Technology as a research university for several years now, guarantees a high level of research, which must translate into a high level of education. This also became prominent during a very valuable meeting with Prof Uriasz. To meet these requirements, one needs to prepare well – one of the key elements are didactic projects. They also include concern for the quality of teaching staff - so that they are as prepared as possible to carry out the tasks they will face.
The fourth edition of the Congress focuses primarily on issues related to innovation in didactics and innovation in system solutions in the context of care for the quality of education. Experts will discuss the personalization of education; challenges related to the European diploma or the implementation of the micro certificate system.

The ceremonial inauguration of the Congress will take place on October 23rd at 11:00 in the auditorium of the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Silesia in Katowice, during which the best didactic innovations implemented in the universities of the Consortium will be presented.
