The 4th IDUB Progress Review Conference is ongoing

With the participation of international experts, University authorities and representatives of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the 4th Progress Review Conference for entities participating in the “Initiative of Excellence – Research University” program is taking place at the Silesian University of Technology. The meeting is an opportunity to summarize temporary activities and exchange experiences between universities participating in this project.

The Excellence Initiative – Research University Program (IDUB) is a competition of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, in which ten selected universities – laureates, including the Silesian University of Technology, are guaranteed in the years 2020-2026, an annual increase in funding of 10%.

The aim of the IDUB initiative is to improve the quality of scientific activity and education, as well as to increase the international importance of universities. One of the key activities of the program in the field of improving the quality of education is to engage students in scientific research through participation in PBL (Project Based Learning) projects and the implementation of student research groups projects.

“- Such a program has never existed in Poland before. Participation in it means not only additional financial resources, but also prestige for participating universities. It is an opportunity to increase international cooperation, increase the number of foreign students, change the work culture. (…) Last year, about 2.5 thousand people at the Silesian University of Technology benefited from various types of support programs. These are both scientists, PhD students and students. This program is also very motivating and encourages taking up new challenges” – said the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, Prof. Marek Pawełczyk.

The 4th Progress Review Conference for entities participating in the “Initiative of Excellence – Research University” program is an opportunity to exchange experiences and present their achievements within the initiative.

- “This conference is a source of knowledge about the effects of this program, universities present their achievements and changes that have been made thanks to the investment of additional funds from the state budget for the development of higher education. At the Ministry of Science, we assess this program very positively and we believe that it should be continued” – said the Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education, Prof. Marek Gzik.
