The 47th Conference of the College of Deans of Mechanical Departments of Polish Technical Universities
On October 15th, at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology began the 47th Conference of the College of Deans of Mechanical Departments of Polish Technical Universities and the Chairmen of Scientific Councils of Mechanical Engineering discipline. The event will last until October 17th
The conference is devoted, among others, to the issues of modern education in the field of mechanical engineering corresponding to the needs of the dynamically changing socio-economic environment. This year’s edition was celebrated during the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Faculty (currently The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering), one of the first four Faculties of the Silesian University of Technology, which was established in 1945.
This is a great highlight of our Jubilee. The conference has been organized since 1994, when the College of Deans of the Mechanical Faculties put was established. Initially, it took place once a year, and now we meet twice a year – each time in a different academic centre, which carries out education and research in the field of mechanical engineering – says the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Dr Hab. Eng. Marcin Adamiak, Prof. SUT, who together with the President of the College of Dean of Mechanical Faculties PUT, Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Hubert Dębski presented medals on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology.
In the official inauguration of the event, the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Marek Pawełczyk, and the Vice-Rector for General Affairs Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Bożena Skolud, took part. The Vice-Rector gave a lecture on “Procedures and criteria for evaluation, Polish Accreditation Committee PKA.”
- Mechanical engineering is one of the largest scientific disciplines that are distinguished in our country. It is present in many faculties, which proves that this subject matter is extremely important in many respects - including the technological development of the country, the needs of industry, but also the interests of young people. You have a strong influence, and this inspires universal respect - says Rector Marek Pawełczyk. - The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of our University has a lot to offer and is a very good partner for cooperation. I hope that your stay in Gliwice will contribute to strengthening your relationship for the sake of the discipline, but also for the entire scientific community.
The conference is attended by almost 60 deans from about 30 universities. The topics discussed during the lectures are related to practical education, including dual studies as a form of education corresponding to the needs of industrial partners, the use of artificial intelligence as a tool supporting industrial processes, as well as standards and procedures for the evaluation of the quality of education.
- In addition to issues related to education processes and didactics, we try to develop a common message that helps in the preparation of the study program and the strategy for the development of the discipline. The deans will also have the opportunity to get to know the most interesting places of our region during this time – explains Dean Marcin Adamiak.
On the first day, the lectures were also delivered by: Dr Eng. Wojciech Jamrozik (“AI drives the future: Modern applications of AI in mechanics, automation and robotics”) and Dr Eng. Janusz Śliwka, Prof. SSUT; and Dr Eng. Magdalena Zorychta-Tomsia (“Practical education – an opportunity or a challenge? Analysis of the advantages and limitations of the practical model of dual education.”
During the event, participants will be able to visit, among others, the scientific and research base of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. Detailed information and conference program can be found at https://www.polsl.pl/rmt/47konferencjadziekanow/
