Talent Fair at EuroScience Open Forum

The second day of the EuroScience Open Forum conference, which takes place as part of the celebration of the European City of Science Katowice 2024, is behind us.

The Euro Science Open Forum has been taking place at the International Congress Centre in Katowice since June 12th. On the second day of this conference, the talks included the challenges faced by scientists and young people entering the labour market. One of the most important points of Thursday's events was the EU Talent Fair.

- “This is an excellent opportunity to talk about the competences of the future. Since we are at the "talent fair", we should talk about a new understanding of talent. Today, when thinking about success, young people must think about the engineering industry. Today, technological and digital competences are not only valued, but they are also necessary,” - said Dr Hab. Małgorzata Dobrowolska, prof. SUT, director of the Business School of the Silesian University of Technology.

In the next discussion, Dr Hab. Eng. Marcin Kaczmarek, prof. SUT added that today, creativity in the field of modern technologies is also an excellent way to start a scientific career.

- “We encourage young people not only to create their own start-ups and make a career in international corporations, but also to develop their discoveries and projects in universities and colleges. The scientific path and commercial activity can be perfectly combined in the technology industry, of which scientists from the Silesian University of Technology are a perfect example.” - said Prof. Kaczmarek, director of the European HealthTech Innovation Centre (EHTIC) in Zabrze

Scientists taking part in Thursday's events during ESOF could also learn about the opportunities for scientists to participate in projects under the Horizon Europe program. The seminar „Green development ahead of us. Innovations in power industry, ICT and green transport", the partner of which was the Silesian University of Technology, was devoted to this issue. The Horizontal Contact Point is located at the Silesian University of Technology, where you can get help and support when writing grants to finance projects from EU funds.
- “The Silesian University of Technology has completed ninety-nine projects under framework programs. In the Horizon Europe project alone, SUT is currently implementing sixteen projects. We are among the leading beneficiaries.” - said Prof. Sebastian Werle, coordinator of the Priority Research Area Climate and Environment Protection, Modern Power Industry at the Silesian University of Technology. A significant part of the implemented projects concerns green energy.
- “The Silesian University of Technology plays an important role in the energy and digital transformation in the region, as these projects evidence this. They concern, among others: recycling of composite waste or low-emission combustion systems,” - he added.

Global problems and challenges have been on the radar of scientists from the Silesian University of Technology for years. During the EuroSience Open Forum, representatives of many disciplines proved this while presenting the latest research results in the field of medicine and implant creation, as well as noise reduction in public spaces.

During the international scientific conference, there was also a discussion on the future of European universities. In this debate, the Silesian University of Technology was represented by the Rector-Elect, Prof. Dr Eng. Marek Pawełczyk, who talked about the benefits of the EURECA PRO network of European universities.
