Summary of the semester of the Baltic University Programme
Baltic University Program is an international network of about one hundred universities located in ten countries of the Baltic Sea region. BUP supports cooperation between scientists, teachers, and students from participating universities.
The authorities of the Baltic University Program sent a letter to the member universities informing about the achievements of this semester. We present its content.
"We see a continued high interest among universities in the Baltic Sea Region to become a part of The Baltic University Programme (BUP). So far this year, 13 more universities have joined - currently, we are 112 BUP participating universities! In 2017 we were 59 universities. This is a testimony of the continues relevance of the BUP as an academic platform for co-operations in the Baltic Sea Region.
As the BUP continues to grow so does our range of calls, events and educational opportunities. So far this year we have announced/arranged the BUP PhD Award, the BUP Mobility Grant, the BUP Research Notes Letter, the BUP Teachers’ Day, the BUP Student Conference, the BUP Science and Sail, the BUP Master Student Training, the BUP Teachers’ Course, the BUP Supervisor Training, the BUP CAPABLE PhD student training as well as two events, an international symposium and a special conference session, within the Polish BUP presidency. If you wish to learn more about the BUP and some of what we offer you are welcome to read the Annual Report from 2023.
Since the launch, there have been hundreds of people who have signed up for one of our free massive open online courses (MOOCs) on the BUP Course Platform. We welcome you to share information about or sign up for one of the BUP courses. Here are the courses currently available:
- Conditions and Challenges of Sustainability,
- Economic Sustainability- an introduction,
- Sustainable Food Systems in the Baltic Sea Region,
- Sustainable Tourism in the Baltic Sea Region,
- The Baltic Sea Environment; Challenges and Solutions,
- Rethinking the Baltic Sea Region,
- Introduction to Virtual Exchange,
- Climate Change in the Baltic Sea Region,
- Energy Transition in the Baltic Sea Region.
As a part of our efforts to develop and make educational materials widely available within the Programme, we have created the BUP educational material bank. The material bank is envisioned to give colleagues at BUP participating universities the opportunity to download and use a wide range of material while creating local courses at their university. The material can be used as a whole or as part of a local course, for example, there are many example lectures that may prove useful. Welcome to register to use the BUP educational material bank.
The BUP is nothing without all of you, dedicated colleagues, who make sure that your university is an active part of the Programme. In the past few years, we have not only seen an increase in the number of participating universities, but we also see high levels of engagement and an increased interest in attending BUP academic events. With this being said, we know that there are some universities that are rarely represented and some with few applications to calls and events. In order to support these universities and increase engagement, we have contacted those universities with high engagement in the past year and created a document containing best practices for sharing information about BUP; BUP reach at participating universities.
The BUP Coordinating Secretariat would like to thank you for this semester, and we wish you a pleasant and restful summer!"
