Success of the Silesian University of Technology at the International Trade Fair of Inventions and Innovation INTARG® 2024
A platinum medal, four gold, one silver and one bronze, as well as numerous special awards, including the Jury Chairman’s Award, as a recognition of students’ work – inventions of scientists of the Silesian University of Technology awarded at the International Fair of Inventions and Innovation INTARG® 2024. This year’s 17th edition of the event was attended by twenty-one countries. The substantive partner of the event was Silesian University of Technology.
INTARG® is an event presenting and promoting inventions and innovations. It is devoted to the presentation of the potential and achievements of technological thought and science - inventions, technologies and services addressed to industry. The Silesian University of Technology submitted seven inventions to the competition, each of them was awarded, some of them won additional awards. In addition, our University received a special diploma of the Minister of Science for the presentation and promotion of inventions in 2023.
Participation in the fair gives scientists a great motivation. If our work gains recognition and additionally finds application in for example, industry, it is extremely constructive and inspiring. It is also an incentive for other scientists, PhD students and students of our University – said Prof. Marek Pawełczyk – Vice-Rector for Science and Development of the Silesian University of Technology.

The Rector’s words are confirmed by the scientists present at the fair.
Participation in such an event cannot be overestimated. This is not only a chance to show your idea, but also to confront other inventors. We can exchange our ideas and stand humbly before the experience of other scientists. I am very curious how others assess my work, whether they see the potential and the possibility of applying it, for example, in industry – said Dr Eng. Witold Janik, who submitted a laboratory stand for testing and supporting multi-point calibration of temperature sensors.
- The fair is not only an opportunity to present your work to a wider audience, but also an opportunity to discuss with experts, which is very important in the context of the development of my invention - adds Aleksandra Mikulíková, PhD student at the Silesian University of Technology, who presented a manual vehicle for children with mobility disabilities.
The event was attended by representatives of twenty-one countries – inventors, entrepreneurs, and experts. The event took place at the International Congress Centre in Katowice.
“This is a great place to promote what scientists are working on, especially that this year Katowice is the European Capital of Science. Here we present teams of scientists creating extremely interesting solutions that can then be implemented in the industry. Thus, the event shows what new scientists have created and what business and industry can benefit from,” said Barbara Haller, President of Eurobusiness-Haller, organizer of the event.

The Silesian University of Technology was the Content Partner of the Fair. Participation in the event was coordinated by the Centre for Incubation and Technology Transfer of the Silesian University of Technology, which this year organized a conference entitled “Technology transfer in universities. Green Transformation of Silesia.” The conference, which was an accompanying event, was attended by representatives of Silesian universities, associated in the Academic Consortium Katowice – City of Science, dealing with technology transfer.
In addition, during the two days of the Fair, the Centre for Incubation and Technology Transfer organized the games of its board game entitled: “Science is the business of tomorrow!” presenting in an accessible form the transition of the technology transfer process, from idea to implementation.
- At the conference, we discussed the development of our province in the context of the transfer of knowledge and technology to the economy. These are very important and financially demanding issues. The meeting was an opportunity to exchange experiences and views between universities and to present their potential in this area – said Dr Eng. Magdalena Letun-Łątka director of the Centre for Incubation and Technology Transfer of the Silesian University of Technology.

During the INTARG® 2024 Fair, students from scientific circles operating at our University also presented their inventions.
"This event is a good opportunity to present our project, but also to meet people who deal with similar issues, get feedback from them about our inventions. And perhaps to win some awards,” said Karol Wilk of the AI-Methh science club, which presented his invention - Integral Senso, an interactive device for disabled children.
This year, in parallel with the INTARG® trade fair, the International Trade Fair for Ecology and Environmental Protection INTARG® EKO 2024 was held. The event was an opportunity for experts to discuss the energy transition and strive to achieve climate neutrality and friendly living conditions.
