The Regional Centre for Teacher Development and Pedagogical Information (WOM) in Rybnik, in cooperation with pupils of the Academic Secondary Comprehensive School of the Silesian University of Technology in Rybnik, was successful in the international innovation competition “International Warsaw Invention Show,” winning two awards.
The Regional Centre for Teacher Development and Pedagogical Information (WOM) in cooperation with Academic Secondary Comprehensive School received a gold medal for an innovative educational and methodology project in chemistry for pupils of primary schools titled “Chemokards.”
It is a project based on 900 original image cards that depict chemical concepts and processes in a visual and symbolic way, engaging students in games, discussions, projects, and narratives. The cards are accompanied by the hero WOMEK, who introduces the pupils into the world of chemistry. The project combines visual thinking, active learning, and gamification, developing cognitive and social competences. The author of the cards is Jerzy Maduzia, and the graphic designer is Joanna Komorek. The pilot implementation of the project was conducted in the first class of Academic Secondary Comprehensive School in Rybnik. In connection with winning the gold medal, pupils received an invitation to participate in the exhibition of inventions and innovations in Bangkok.
A silver medal was also awarded for the board game “Queuing for Competition”- Training for Work, which was developed by Anna Krzyżanowska and Sabina Ficek (translated into English by Katarzyna Wróbel). The game supports the development of competences in labour markets. It is an original educational project, supporting teachers in the implementation of tasks in the field of preorientation and career counselling. The basis of the project is a board game presenting ten professions – from craft to public services. Pupils learn the characteristic activities and attributes of the profession and learn about the work-life balance.
