Graduate of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, MSc. Monika Rejek won the 1st National Competition of the Polish Society of Materials Science for the best master’s thesis in the field of materials engineering (edition 2024–2025). The winner will be the only representative of Poland in the competition at the European level organized by the Federation of European Materials Societies (FEMS), which will take place in July in Greece.
The awarded thesis entitled “Synthesis and characterization of electrodeposited Zn coatings for biomedical applications” received the maximum number of points in all substantive categories, which confirms its exceptionally high scientific level and excellent preparation of presentations and answers to questions of the competition committee. 12 diploma theses were submitted in the competition.
The work was carried out under the direction of Dr Hab. Eng. Janusz Mazurkiewicz, Prof. SUT together with Dr M. Wątroba from EMPA in Thun (Switzerland). The research was carried out in the EMPA centre in the period from March to the end of August 2024, while the defence took place on the 7th of September 2024 at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. Monika Rejek has been pursuing her scientific work at the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Testing and Research in Switzerland since graduating in 2024.
This unique distinction opens the way to the next stage of the FEMS Competition, and our winner will represent Poland in the European final of the competition, which will take place during the EUROMAT Junior 2026 Conference in Greece (12–16 July 2026).
