Students of the Silesian University of Technology presented PBL projects during an international conference
Students of the Silesian University of Technology took part in the International Conference “Young Researchers Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) 2026”, which took place on the 6th of May in hybrid mode at the Universiti Sains Malaysia, Geography Section, School of Humanities (USM, Penang, Malaysia).
The students presented the results of two PBL projects implemented in the winter semester of 2025/2026, as part of the Excellence Initiative - Research University programme These were the following presentations:
- “Geospatial data analysis in diagnostic applications for disaster land management”.
- “Examples of how freely available Geographic Information Systems (GIS) can be used in the analysis of natural disasters - the flood in southwestern Poland (2024) and the landslide in Batang Kali, Malaysia (2022)”.
PBL projects were implemented by teams:

Aneta Grodzicka, Prof. SUT (RG4).
- From Universiti Sains Malaysia: Oliwia Szweda and Kacper Kaczmarski (Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering and Industrial Automation, Department of Geoengineering and Resource Exploitation - RG4), Wazif A. Hassdi, Mohd I. I. Azmi, Muhammad N. A. Hasbullah and Divbya A.P. Lachimanan (Mineral Resources Engineering, School of Materials and Mineral Resources Engineering, Engineering Campus, Universiti Sains Malaysia, USM MY), tutors - Dr Eng. Krzysztof M. Tomiczek (RG4), PhD, Prof. at USM Hareyani Zabidi, Dr Eng. Monika Żogała (RG4).
The online presentations were delivered, on behalf of the teams, by: Natalia Zaręba and Oliwia Szwed.
During the conference, over 30 young scientists from 10 countries, in 4 sessions, presented broadly understood issues of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR).
Students of the Silesian University of Technology met the task and presented the results of the projects well. Among the speakers there mainly young scientists with a PhD degree.
