Students of the Silesian University of Technology organize the “December Book-Fairy” campaign
Students of the Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology begin a social action consisting in mutual gift of books. The initiative aims to popularize reading and increase public awareness of its values.
The idea was born during a discussion during the “Communication techniques and Tools” class, which is led by Dr Lukasz Zimnoch. Students were astonished by the fact that among readers the most common form of contact with the text are not books but press articles on computer screens or smartphones. Learning about this astonishing fact, future engineers decided to act.
The first book exchange took place on the 27th of November 2025 in the building of the Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology in Katowice. Everyone who brought a book drew a person to whom he passed his treasure, explaining why they thought the book was worth reading.-
With this book you can really understand what Socrates, Kant, and Nietzsche meant. It is light yet very wise. It can also be treated as an interactive course of philosophy, because we are embodied in the role of ancient philosophers; so, it is highly recommendable – a student Aleksandra Czarnecka describes the book “Philosophy in a novel.”
- This is an entertaining book that has an incredibly engaging storyline, reminding us of the 2020 pandemic that paralyzed the whole world. It shows what would happen if the virus were more dangerous and the world was less prepared, when there is no hope for the world and every family struggles to survive. It shows how thin the line between civilization and anarchy is in the current world – says student Alicja Malik about the book “Pandemic.”
- “The Power of the subconscious” is one of the most influential and timeless guides, which explains the mechanisms of the human mind and teaches how to consciously direct one’s fate. Dr Joseph Murphy bases his teachings on the belief that every human being has unlimited creative power hidden in his subconscious mind, says student Piotr Burnus.
Further book exchanges will be held in different locations throughout December, and the organizers encourage all communities to join the action, especially schools, universities, libraries.
