Students of the Silesian University of Technology among the best at CyberRange 2025

Simulated attacks, time pressure and scenarios based on real-world situations – this was how teams competed during CyberRange 2025, organized as part of the Industrial Evolution 2025 conference: Automation – Intelligence – Robotics. Ten teams from leading industrial companies and institutions have faced the challenges of digital critical infrastructure protection. We are proud to announce that the team of students of the Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering, and Industrial Automation of the Silesian University of Technology in the field of Automation and Industrial Computer Science has been highly rated in this prestigious competition.

The Silesian University of Technology team consisted of:

  1. Kamil Niewiadomski
  2. Krzysztof Dyczko
  3. Wojciech Rosiński
  4. Adam Czubin
  5. Bogusław Niedziela
  6. Jan Kompałka
  7. Wojciech Zarębski

Our students have successfully competed with professionals with years of industry experience. The contribution of M.Sc. Piotr Toś from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Industrial Automation, whose commitment and substantive support were important for the success of the team deserves special recognition here.

-I am proud of our students. In such a demanding, professional environment, they did great, presenting not only knowledge, but above all responsibility and readiness to act. This shows that our approach to practical education brings results – said Dr Hab. Eng. Krzysztof Filipowicz, Prof. SUT, Dean of the Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering, and Industrial Automation of the Silesian University of Technology

The CyberRange 2025 scenario is built on the CDeX platform and maps the functioning of complex industrial systems – with OT protocols, process automation and a control layer. Participants had to detect incidents, classify threats, and report them according to operational procedures – all in conditions of maximum realism.

- This year’s edition was a clear step forward. The simulation included more than 90 different threat vectors. The first 29 detections were recorded, which shows how complex the environment was, - comments Gabriel Kulpa from CDeX, whose training platform was used to conduct the competition.

The organizers emphasize unequivocally: Technology is important, but the effectiveness of actions is determined by a well-coordinated, well-prepared, and competent team. It is people who remain the most important link in the cybersecurity system.
