Students of Silesian University of Technology awarded in "Young Innovators" competition
Graduates of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering have been awarded in the 13th edition of the nationwide competition Young Innovators 2021. The jury, chaired by Professor Janusz Kacprzyk (Systems Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences), awarded, in each category, 1st and 2nd category prizes and honourable mentions.
Wojciech Hańderek and Paweł Polnik won the second prize in their categories. The jury awarded the thesis entitled "Detection system of cyber attacks on industrial control systems", whose supervisor is prof. Piotr Przystałka and an engineering thesis "Visualisation of a selected industrial process with the use of Internet technologies", supervised by Prof. Gabriel Kost. The achievement is even greater as the winners were competing against the best graduates from all over Poland.
Both theses are related to the subject of cyber security undertaken in the project of ICS CyberSecurity Team, whose scientific supervisor is Professor Piotr Przystałka. The solutions resulting from the project activities have an innovative and original character and are characterised by a high practical level. A test stand and system demonstrator were the main attraction of the stand of the Marshal Office of the Silesia Voivodeship at the prestigious Cybersec 2019 conference, arousing the interest of industry experts from companies such as Samsung, Grupa Azoty, Enea, Motorola Solutions, APA Group, IOSEC.
The project initially gained financial support from the so-called small grant for student scientific associations at the Silesian University of Technology (2019 edition) and is currently being developed thanks to funding obtained during the 3rd edition of the competition for scientific associations at the Silesian University of Technology within the Excellence Initiative - Research University Programme.
The research carried out so far has made it possible to prepare several scientific publications in cooperation with students of our university. The project was also presented at numerous events organised at the Silesian University of Technology, including a seminar on the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence and cyber security organised at the end of February 2020.
