Students of cognitive technologies prepared an exhibition

On the 20th of May, an exhibition prepared with the participation of students of cognitive technologies and social media – Laura Łukaszczyk and Oliwia Glombek  - was presented at the Faculty of Organization and Management of the Silesian University of Technology.

Students of the Faculty of Organization and Management of the Silesian University of Technology took part in a scientific and research project, as part of which the exhibition was created. The effect of the three-month work was presented yesterday with the participation of students and employees of the Zabrze faculty.

The event was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Organization and Management Dr Hab. Aleksandra Kuzior, Prof. SUT, who congratulated the students on their results.

“I am proud that students of cognitive technologies and social media have completed such an interesting exhibition and gained valuable experience,” she said.

The project “Silesian opinion leaders, i.e. the unofficial representation of Silesians” was an interesting challenge for students. It included several stages. In the first phase of the implementation, a survey of the opinion of the inhabitants of the Silesian Voivodeship was commissioned on a sample of 500 people. The participants answered questions about opinion leaders. The respondents indicated who – by name and surname – they consider to be the leader of opinion in the field of Silesian issues; what qualities should these leaders have; what professions they represent and what topics they should be interested in in particular.

After receiving the results of the research, the team implementing the project on the basis of the collected data selected an “eleven,” i.e. an unofficial representation, who were then invited to cooperate later in the project.

Leaders were invited to meetings with students, during which the role of opinion leaders in society was discussed. The project manager is Katarzyna Siwczyk, who is associated with the Centre for Promotion and Media Communication of the Silesian University of Technology and the Institute of Journalism and Media Communication of the University of Silesia. The participants of the project were students of journalism and social communication, cognitive technologies and social media, and graphic design from three Silesian universities – Silesian University of Technology, University of Economics and University of Silesia. This group included two students of the Silesian University of Technology, who themselves applied for participation - Laura Łukaszczyk and Oliwia Glombek.

Laura Łukaszczyk was responsible for preparing graphics based on photographs taken during meetings or obtained from archives. The author does not hide that it was an interesting challenge.

- “I tried to refer to the Silesian landscape, hence the characters were presented against the background of the mine shaft, and the characteristic elements were presented in yellow and blue Silesian colours. In addition, I had to deal with searching the archives to obtain photos of people who have already passed away” - Laura said.

Artificial intelligence has also been helpful in preparing the exhibition.

In turn, Olivia Glombek in this project was responsible for preparing promotional materials.

- “I made video recordings, rolls, posts on social media and took care of communication about the event. It was a valuable experience,” - she added.
