St. Barbara’s Day event at the Silesian University of Technology

On the 10th –12th December 2025, we invite you to the 4th National Barbórka Meeting of Miners 2025 – a unique celebration of mining tradition and academic community. The event is organized by the Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering, and Industrial Automation of the Silesian University of Technology in cooperation with the Coal Mining Museum in Zabrze and the National Secretariat of Mining and Power Industry NSZZ “Solidarność.”

For years, the Barbórka celebrations at the Silesian University of Technology have gathered hundreds of participants related to the mining community throughout Poland. This year’s celebrations include a number of events that are part of the annual Barbórka tradition as well as the mission of building cooperation between science, industry, local government, and public administration.

Re-immatriculation of graduates

The ceremonial celebration includes the re-matriculation of graduates of the 1975 year. This unique ceremony of a symbolic nature, emphasizing the multi-generational bond that connects the community of our Faculty, will take place on December 10th.

International Scientific Conference

The focal point of this year’s event will be the International Scientific Conference “Sustainable Development of Mining 2025 – Partnership of Science, Industry, Government and Administration for the future of Mining and Region Transformation” organized by the Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering, and Industrial Automation.

The aim of the conference is to present the achievements of scientific and industrial circles, as well as to strengthen dialog and cooperation between key actors involved in the transformation of the region. The event is scheduled for December 11.

The Barbórka Academy

The culmination of the celebrations will be the ceremonial Barbórka Academy  at the Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering and Industrial Automation of the Silesian University of Technology on December 12, 2025 at 9.00 p.m. the Barbórka Holy Mass was planned at the St. Michael the Archangel Church, 1, Bolesława Krzywoustego Street in Gliwice). Right after the Mass, at 10.00 a.m., a procession will leave the church to the monument of St. Barbara in the courtyard of the Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering, and Industrial Automation. From 12:45 to 13:40 a concert of the KWK Sośnica Orchestra will take place in the Main Hall of the Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering, and Industrial Automation of the Silesian University of Technology.

Traditional mining

Also on December 12th, after the ceremonial Academy, a traditional Mining Feast will take place, which this year will take place in the PreZero Arena hall in Gliwice.

The 4th  National Barbórka Meeting of Miners 2025 and accompanying events take place under the honorary patronage of: The Minister of State assets, the Minister of Energy, the Minister of Climate and Environment, the Minister of Science and Higher Education, the Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship, the Mayor of the City of Gliwice, the National Geological Institute – PIB, the Higher Mining Authority and the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology.
