Spread your wings in the Student Activity Centre
On March 17, the first meeting in the series for the most talented students of the Silesian University of Technology included in the mentoring program took place at the Student Creativity Centre in Gliwice. There was also a snack and a film surprise for the participants.
Monday’s meeting inaugurated a series aimed at integrating the most talented people studying at the Silesian University of Technology, as well as offering them workshops improving skills and developing interests. The meeting took place in a nice atmosphere, with a tasty pizza. The students were welcomed by Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Anna Chrobok, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Education.
– “We want our students to feel at home at the Silesian University of Technology, we want to support them in their development, but also learn from them because they have potential, they are creative.” – said Professor Chrobok. – “Such meetings are a pleasure for us, thanks to them we want to meet young people, listen to their voice and better respond to their needs.” – added the Vice-Rector.
As part of a series of meetings for the most talented students in the Student Creativity Centre, which operates within the Student Activity Centre, workshops on motivation, media communication and interpersonal will take place.
– “Certainly such workshops are needed, I have already managed to convince myself that soft skills are very useful in life, and thanks to such meetings we will also be able to establish relations with others.” – said Wojciech Sikorski, a computer science student, adding that participation in the mentoring program of the Silesian University of Technology opened a lot of opportunities for self-development.
The mentoring program can be joined by students who obtained the best results during recruitment as well as the most talented students of academic secondary comprehensive schools. In addition to the care of an academic teacher acting as a mentor, who shares their knowledge and experience with students, the participants of this program receive a scholarship.
– “It is worth joining the best ones, in the Student Activity Centre we will introduce regular meetings and workshops, we want to involve all students in these activities, so that this place will be a springboard for them, where they can develop their interests.”
The meeting ended with the screening of the inspiring film “A Beautiful Mind,” based on the biography of the brilliant mathematician, John Nash, a Nobel laureate, who despite adversity manages to achieve his life goal.
