Silesian University of Technology together with the Gliwice district
On Thursday, September 23, 2021, at the office of the Gliwice district, a meeting was held related to the activation of cooperation within the Energy Cluster "Friendly Energy in the Gliwice district", which was attended by representatives of the Silesian University of Technology and the district.
The meeting was the result of talks between the Vice Rector for Collaboration with Civic and Economic Environment, Prof. Janusz Kotowicz and a member of the management board of the Gliwice district, Ms Ewa Jurczyga. The meeting was initiated after the meeting of the Social Council of the Silesian University of Technology held at the beginning of September.
Silesian University of Technology was also represented by: from Faculty of Energy and Environmental Engineering: Dean Prof. Mariusz Dudziak; Prof. Sebastian Werle, Deputy Dean for Cooperation and Development, Coordinator of Priority Research Area no. 6 (POB6); Prof. Sławomir Dykas, Deputy Dean for Infrastructure and Organisation; Prof. Elwira Zajusz-Zubek, Head of the Department of Air Protection and also Prof. Joanna Ferdyn Grygierek, Director of the Centre of Climate and Environmental Protection.
Gliwice district was represented by: Włodzimierz Gwiżdż, deputy chairman of the Gliwice district, Józef Kruczek, chairman of the Commission for Environmental Protection and Energy of the Gliwice district, Mariusz Dyka, head of the Department of Environmental Protection, Agriculture and Forestry and Krystian Szczerbak.
Both the Silesian University of Technology and the Gliwice district have many ideas for cooperation within the Energy Cluster and beyond, which was discussed at the meeting. Joint activities within the Energy Cluster, of which our University is also a member, are in line with Priority Research Area no. 6: climate and environmental protection, modern energy sector. In this area, the Silesian University of Technology is open for cooperation with other institutions, industry, business, NGOs and the local government.
Our university offers the possibility of conducting mobile air quality measurements, and scientists are willing to conduct such research also in the Gliwice district. Cooperation with the Centre of Climate and Environment Protection at the Silesian University of Technology is also planned.
During the meeting, the initiative to jointly organise a conference on the possibilities of using biogas was also discussed. An agreement between the University and the local government on the directions for further cooperation is also planned.
“We appreciate it very much and we are grateful for the fact that we can work together with you to protect the environment in our region, through which, indirectly, we want to take care of the health and the best possible quality of life of the residents of the Gliwice area" pointed out Ewa Jurczyga, representative of the Gliwice district management board.
