Silesian University of Technology strengthens international partnerships in Malaysia
In September 2025, a delegation of the Silesian University of Technology visited Malaysia, visiting the leading universities of this country: Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Utara Malaysia, and Multimedia University, as well as the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Kuala Lumpur.
The delegation included: Prof Sebastian Werle Vice-Rector for Science and International Cooperation, Dr Eng. Grzegorz Kłapyta, Head of the International Relations Office and Dr Eng. Krzysztof Tomiczek from the Department of Geoengineering and Resource Exploitation (KGiES,) the Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering, and Industrial Automation). The visit was the result of cooperation developed since 2021 with universities in South-East Asia, first as part of the international Erasmus CBHE Geometry Disaster Risk Reduction (GeoDRR) project, and later as part of project-related activities, lectures, working meetings, seminars and international PBL projects conducted by Dr Eng. Krzysztof Tomiczek.
The visit to Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) resulted in the signing of an agreement on the exchange of students and staff. The delegation also visited the Science and Engineering Research Centre (SERK) and the laboratories of electronics and electrical engineering, which constitute important research facilities of the university.

In turn, the Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) held a ceremony of signing a cooperation agreement between the SUT and UUM in the field of research, mobility of staff and students and implementation of joint projects. In addition, a meeting with representatives of Multimedia University was also organized, giving new perspectives for future initiatives between our universities.
An important point of the delegation’s agenda was a visit to the Polish Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, during which the delegation was welcomed by His Excellency Krzysztof Dobrowolski, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Poland in Malaysia and representatives of the Diplomatic Corps. The talks concerned, among others, conditions and possibilities of cooperation between Polish and Malaysian universities.
The trip is an important step in the implementation of the internationalization strategy of our University, focusing on building lasting academic partnerships with prestigious research centres of South-East Asia.
