Silesian University of Technology signed a cooperation agreement with Yildiz Technical University
The authorities of Yildiz Technical University from Turkey and the Silesian University of Technology met to learn about each other’s potential and define areas of cooperation. The meeting was also attended by the deans of our University, and the authorities of the faculties of the university from Istanbul were present online.
A delegation from Turkey presented the potential of Yildiz Technical University, a university with nearly 120 years of tradition. It is one of the best Turkish universities, similarly to the Silesian University of Technology specializing in engineering sciences. The meeting, concluded with the signing of the cooperation agreement, is the result of earlier contacts of His Magnificence Rector Prof. Marek Pawełczyk with the Rector of Yildiz Technical University.
- It is the third largest university in the country and in many areas, it holds a leading position among Turkish universities. It is also distinguished by the largest technology park in Turkey, in which there are about 750 companies employing a total of over 8 000 people. Thanks to this, the university maintains very strong relations with the industry – said Prof. Pawełczyk after the meeting, stressing that research areas, competences, as well as structures of departments and fields of study of both universities are very similar.
– We came to the Silesian University of Technology to get to know each other better and discuss the possibilities of cooperation. We specialize in the area of sustainable development and mechanical, electronic, material, chemical or environmental engineering. After today's presentation, I see many similarities between our universities, which gives a solid foundation for future cooperation - said Prof. Eyüp Debik, Rector of Yildiz Technical University. - We would like to implement joint projects under Horizon Europe or other European Union initiatives, and in the future to develop student and academic exchange, - he added.
The participants of the meeting pointed out that there is a huge potential for mutual cooperation. His Magnificence Rector Marek Pawełczyk plans to initiate individual contacts between the deans of both universities in order to best prepare for the visit of the Silesian University of Technology delegation to Yildiz Technical University in the coming months.
