For the tenth time in a row, the Silesian University of Technology has been the winner of the general classification of the Silesian Academic Championships series. Our students won 18 gold medals this season – a record result!

Athletes in the colours of the Silesian University of Technology stood on the podium in as many as 41 out of 45 disciplines. They won 18 gold medals, 15 times silver and 8 times bronze rings, thanks to which they turned out to be the best also in the medal classification.

- We have never won so many gold medals, which is our best result - says Prof. Krzysztof Czapla, director of the SUT Sports Centre. - It would be a bigger surprise for us if we didn't win this classification. Since 1972, when the Silesian Academic Championships began, we have failed only eight times. I would like to thank my coaches and teachers for their hard work. I would also like to thank the University for its support for the sport.

In the general classification – including the score for all final results – our University overtook the University of Silesia in Katowice and the Medical University of Silesia, earning a total of 826 points. It is worth noting that the Silesian University of Technology was the only one to present representatives in all 45 disciplines.

- This is very important and I am glad that the Sports Centre was able to mobilize students for sports activity, and the employees are helping each other - adds Professor Krzysztof Czapla.

The fight between the Silesian University of Technology and the University of Silesia has been decided in recent weeks, in which our students won gold medals in mountain biking, women's football, and last weekend also in unihockey.

- This section has been with us only for a year, and we have already achieved success - praises Prof. Krzysztof Czapla.

- We have heard about winning in the general classification and we are glad that we could add points to it - says Sylwia Łaskawska, representative of our University in unihockey. - We did not expect to win a gold medal, because we did less in the Academic Polish Championships. At the Silesian Academic Championships, however, we adopted a different tactic, we went relaxed to play in these competitions and we succeeded. We played three players in the field plus a goalkeeper, in teams of men and women. In the game deciding about gold, we beat the Medical University of Silesia 3-0. This result was a big surprise for us.

In addition to the above-mentioned disciplines, athletes in the colours of our University stood on the highest step of the podium also in cross-country runs for men, rowing ergometer for women and men, 3x3 men basketball, men's basketball, men's athletics, men's skiing, men's football, men's handball, chess, women's and men's table tennis, powerlifting, women's and men's sports climbing.
