Silesian University of Technology in Upper Silesian-Zagłębie Metropolis (GZM) campus

“You have a lot of talent. We have many universities. Study in the Upper Silesian-Zagłębie Metropolis” – under this slogan, GZM launches a promotional campaign aimed at encouraging young people to choose one of the 25 universities operating in the Metropolis and showing GZM as an attractive place to live, study, work and relax. One of the universities of the GZM Campus is, of course, Silesian University of Technology.

The campaign “You have many talents. We have many universities. Study in the Upper Silesian-Zagłębie Metropolis” inaugurates the launch of a new brand – the GZM Campus, whose aim is to network, support and promote science in the Upper Silesian-Zagłębie Metropolis. The start of the campaign coincides with the launch of the gzm.pl campus website, which is a compendium of knowledge about the region’s educational offer and the advantages of studying there. The first spots, of which there will be more in the coming months, have also been published.

“-Every student has potential. That is why we create a space in which it can be developed – combining various interests, fields of study and career opportunities” – says Kazimierz Karolczak, Chairman of the Board of the Upper Silesian-Zagłębie Metropolis. – “At GZM we believe that science is our new industry. We offer current and future students not only high-quality education but also inspiring academic environment and comfortable living conditions” – adds Karolczak.

GZM is a place where prestigious public and private universities meet, offering a wide range of majors and unique specializations tailored to the requirements of the modern labour market.

GZM – a region of science, innovation and green space

The Upper Silesian-Zagłębie Metropolis is the first metropolitan union in Poland, comprising 41 cities and municipalities in the central part of the Silesian Voivodeship, inhabited by 2.1 million people. The GZM Campus currently educates more than 90 thousand students, and the educational offer includes hundreds of majors and specializations – from technical, through humanities, to medical.

The campaign emphasizes not only educational values, but also:

  • Attractiveness of the labour market – GZM is one of the most dynamically developing economic centres in Poland. By studying here, students have easy access to internships, work placements and job offers – while still studying. The proximity of numerous companies, institutions and business centres promotes building a career and gaining valuable experience,
  • attractive costs of living – lower rental and maintenance costs than in other major cities,
  • efficient public transport – the integrated public transport network allows you to easily and quickly move between the cities of GZM. Buses, trams, trolleybuses, trains and city bikes – all within one ticket in the Transport network GZM,
  • rich cultural and social life – numerous events, festivals and student initiatives, rich cultural offer and developed sports infrastructure,
  • green surroundings – as much as ¼ of the GZM area are green spaces: parks, forests and recreational areas.

All this makes studying in one of the cities of the Upper Silesian-Zagłębie Metropolis worthwhile and attractive.

Wide range of campaigns

The start of the study incentive campaign coincides with the period when future students make a decision about the place and direction of their future education. The target group is young people from the Silesian Voivodeship and neighbouring regions or well-connected GZM (Lower Silesia, Opole, Małopolska, Podkarpackie and Lodz).

The activities will cover a wide range of communication channels, including social media (TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, BeReal), digital platforms (Librus, Google, Spotify, Twitch.tv, YouTube), outdoor campaign, educational press and cinema spots.

GZM supports science

The campaign promoting studying in the Upper Silesian-Zagłębie Metropolis is another expression of the fact that science is treated in the region as a modern engine of development. Thanks to the close cooperation of local governments, universities and research institutes, GZM implements interdisciplinary scientific projects that stimulate the creativity of residents and strengthen the competitiveness of the entire region.

Through the Metropolitan Science Support Fund grants are awarded for research and development projects – available not only to researchers, but also to students and doctoral students. Every year, GZM also awards financial prizes for the best diploma theses (bachelor’s degree, engineering and master’s degree), related thematically to the tasks carried out by the Metropolis. It is a unique way of appreciating young scientists and promoting their first achievements.

Thanks to the support of GZM, universities in the region host Nobel Prize winners and researchers from the world’s leading universities, which further strengthens the Metropolis’s position on the map of European science. This role was confirmed by the award of the title of the European City of Science to Katowice – the largest city of GZM in 2024 and its celebrations in the entire GZM.
