Silesian University of Technology continues as a Leader the implementation of the Geomatics for Disaster Risk Reduction Project - educational visit and training for Partners at the University of Alicante (Spain)
On June 12-16, an Educational and Training Meeting was held at the University of Alicante (Spain) as part of the "Geomatics for Disaster Risk Reduction" (GeoDRR) Erasmus E+ project.
The Silesian University of Technology is the Leader of this Project, and its Main Coordinator, Dr. Eng. Krzysztof Tomiczek from the Department of Geoengineering and Resource Exploitation (KGiES, Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering and Industrial Automation). 10 Partners participate in the Project: 6 universities from Southeast Asia (Philippines, Cambodia, Malaysia), universities from Greece and Spain and a consulting group from Luxembourg. The project has been running for 3 years; The Project Coordinator from 2022 is Dr Eng. Krzysztof Tomiczek. The aim of the Project is to launch second-cycle studies "Geomatics for Disaster Risk Reduction (GeoDRR)" at six South Asian Universities, along with the necessary laboratory facilities. Apart from coordination, management, managerial and administrative activities, the Silesian University of Technology, together with European universities and a consulting and training company, conducts training activities for Asian Partners and promotional works as part of the GeoDRR Project.
The GeoDRR project is a difficult and demanding project. This is due to the number of Partners, the complexity and diversity of actions taken, the distance between Partners and independent external factors (pandemic, geopolitical situation in Europe and Asia - war in Ukraine, disruption of supply chains, increase in equipment prices). Asian partners are demanding partners - some universities are highly ranked on the Shanghai list. Since taking over the coordination of the GeoDRR Project (since 2022) by dr Krzysztof Tomiczek, supplementary and corrective actions were introduced to make up for the delays in the implementation of tasks in the project. On May 4, 2023, the project received an EACEA E+ "GOOD" rating based on the mid-term / interim technical report submitted by the Coordinator.
The meeting in Alicante went well and smoothly. The time of the visit was filled with lectures, simulation classes, trainings, laboratory classes and field exercises. During the training meeting, employees of the Silesian University of Technology prepared 4 lectures. Their authors were Dr. Eng. Krzysztof Tomiczek (file with voiceover due to random reasons - editor's note), Dr Eng. Krzysztof Słota, dr hab. Eng. Anna Bluszcz and dr hab. Eng. Katarzyna Tobór-Osadnik.
