Silesian University of Technology begins cooperation for projects for the defence sector
During this year’s International Defence Industry Exhibition (MSPO), the Silesian University of Technology signed a letter of intent on establishing cooperation with Casp System Sp. z o.o. and the Non-destructive Testing Centre ZPS GAMRAT. The aim of the cooperation is to undertake joint actions for projects for the defence sector.
Silesian University of Technology, Special Production Plant “GAMRAT” Sp. z o.o. and Casp System Sp. z o.o. signed a letter of intent concerning cooperation in the development and expansion of the capabilities of digital radiography (DR) systems, imaging processing 3D and automatic evaluation of products using artificial intelligence methods and systems.
The document signed on the 8th of September 2026 is a declaration of establishing and developing long-term cooperation between the three entities. Its aim is to combine the experience of the industrial Special Production Plant “GAMRAT,” technological competence of Casp System and the scientific and research potential of the Silesian University of Technology.
The cooperation will focus on the development of digital radiography, imaging and analysis technology 3D and the use of artificial intelligence in automatic evaluation of products. An important element will also be the development of solutions aimed at increasing the efficiency, quality and safety of production and research processes.
On the part of the Silesian University of Technology, the joint activities will concern the use of laboratory and scientific potential located at the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering and in the European HealthTech Innovation Centre (EHTIC).
The aim of the cooperation is, among others, to develop tools using artificial intelligence methods to analyse images. For this reason, the employees of the Department of Medical Informatics and Artificial Intelligence will cooperate with commercial partners.
Solutions of this type are to support experts in the analysis of large amounts of image data, contributing to the increase of speed and repeatability of the conducted analyses.
The cooperation will also include three-party initiatives with the Non-Destructive Testing Centre ZPS GAMRAT, which was launched this year and is the most modern facility of this type in the Polish Armaments Group, equipped with advanced research infrastructure enabling comprehensive analyses and quality control of products.
In accordance with the letter of intent, the parties intend to jointly identify technological, research and production needs and develop, test and implement solutions that meet these needs.
An important area will be the automation and digitization of selected research, laboratory, control, and production processes, as well as the improvement of methods of obtaining, processing, and analysing process and measurement data. The partners also provide for joint analyses, tests, technological trials, demonstrations, and validation of developed solutions.
The cooperation is also intended to encourage the exchange of knowledge and experience and technical consultations between specialists of the institutions involved. One of the objectives of the agreement is to jointly identify and prepare research and development, technological and implementation projects. The Parties also declare to analyse available national and European sources of financing and to cooperate in the preparation and implementation of projects, including in the form of partnership or consortium.
The signing of the Letter of Intent opens the way for further talks and preparation of specific research and development projects, combining the potential of the Silesian University of Technology with the GAMRAT industrial experience and the technological competence of Casp System.
The letter of intent was signed by Dr Hab. Eng. Marcin Staniek, Prof. SUT, Vice-Rector for Collaboration with the Civic and Economic Environment of the Silesian University of Technology, Krzysztof Kosowski - President of the Management Board of Casp System Sp. z o.o. and Mariusz Bałuka and Tomasz Reszel - representatives of the Special Production Plant "GAMRAT" Sp. z o.o. – an entity with its registered office in Jasło, represented at the signing of the document by the President of the Management Board and a Member of the Management Board.
