Silesian University of Technology awarded the "Leader in Cybereducation" prize

The Silesian University of Technology received an award in the CYBERSEC Awards competition, which accompanied this year's edition of the CYBERSEC EXPO & FORUM conference. The gala took place on June 15th, 2026, at the International Congress Centre in Katowice.

The CYBERSEC Awards were presented for the first time. Their awarding was decided by a jury composed of cybersecurity experts.

The Silesian University of Technology received an award in the "Leader in Cybereducation" category. The title in this category is awarded to individuals or institutions that make a special contribution to raising awareness of cyber threats. This is an appreciation of initiatives that are not related to the technical aspect of cybersecurity but show that educational activities are just as important as effective and secure systems.

The award was received on behalf of the Silesian University of Technology by the Rector, Prof. Dr |Hab. Eng. Marek Pawełczyk.

- We educate thousands of IT specialists, and artificial intelligence and cybersecurity are among the topics that are particularly addressed here. The Silesian University of Technology has excellent staff, we can offer a lot not only to students, but also to external partners, he said.

The Rector emphasized that the Silesian University of Technology has created, among other things, a cybersecurity strategy for the city of Gliwice and is ready to support business partners and other local governments in the same way. In addition, the University is implementing a project as part of the task commissioned by the Minister of Science and Higher Education entitled: “Improving cybersecurity competences of staff at universities, research and scientific institutes." The project is a response to new legal, organisational and technical requirements resulting from the provisions on the national cybersecurity system, including the implementation of Directive (EU) 2022/2555 of the European Parliament and of the Council, known as the NIS2 Directive. The aim of the project is to support entities of the higher education and science system in preparing to perform duties related to cybersecurity management, risk management, ensuring business continuity, responding to incidents, and building and maintaining an Information Security Management System.

The commitment to cyber education has been noticed by experts. The Rector of the Silesian University of Technology noted that the award is even more valuable because the Silesian University of Technology is among an outstanding group of professionals. In the "Leader in Cybereducation" category, in addition to our University, NASK – the National Research Institute – was also recognized.

The CYBERSEC Awards Gala took place as part of the CYBERSEC EXPO & FORUM conference – the largest forum in Central and Eastern Europe devoted to cybersecurity issues. The event takes place from the 15th to 16th of June 2026 in Katowice with the participation of the Silesian University of Technology.
