Silesian University of Technology at the World Urban Forum

People from all over the world have arrived in Katowice for the most important global event on politics, transformation and urban development. The World Urban Forum, organised by UN-Habitat, is taking place there from 26 to 30 June. The Silesian University of Technology is also present there.

- The World Urban Forum takes place every two years and this year it is in Katowice. I think that all inhabitants of Silesia are happy about that. The Forum is a great opportunity to discuss important issues concerning the development of cities and the implementation of sustainable development goals (including directly goal 11 - sustainable cities and communities). But in fact, the implementation of all 17 Sustainable Development Goals can have a positive impact on the quality of life in cities. Today, more than half of the world's population already lives in cities (around 55%). It is estimated that this will increase to 75% by 2050. What is needed is not only institutional cooperation, but the entire global community should take some responsibility for the planet by changing individual behaviour, lifestyle, consumption, so that it is possible to have a high quality of life and achieve well-being in a healthy and clean environment - said Professor Aleksandra Kuzior, Vice-Dean for the Cooperation and Development of the Faculty of Organization and Management at the Silesian University of Technology.

At the World Urban Forum, the Silesian University of Technology, as one of ten research universities in the country, presents selected scientific research carried out in six priority research areas and shares good practices in environmental education and awareness building.

The Silesian University of Technology is present, among others, in the science zone, co-created by the largest universities in the region. The zone is located at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Silesia in Katowice. It is an open and accessible space for reflection, exchange of ideas and debates on building a better future in cities. Lectures, workshops and demonstrations will be organised there.

- There will be two panel discussions organised by the Silesian University of Technology in cooperation with DB Cargo Poland and the Polish Chamber of Ecology, as well as several lectures on such topics as greenery in the city, climate and environmental protection, energy efficiency, artificial intelligence, cognitive technologies and open innovation. A locomotive simulator will also be made available to the audience. In virtual reality, you'll be able to see how you drive a locomotive, what it feels like, whether it's a difficult job, and how to react in dangerous situations. It's worth a try - encouraged Aleksandra Kuzior.

The first lecture given by the scientists of the Silesian University of Technology was the one entitled "Cognitive technologies and artificial intelligence in (life)", (Professor Aleksandra Kuzior; Katarzyna Postrzednik-Lotko, PhD; Bartłomiej Knosala PhD; Józef Ober, PhD). During the lecture the possibilities of using cognitive techniques in effective communication were presented.
