Silesian University of Technology at the 1st National Congress “Science for Business”
Employees and students of the Silesian University of Technology took part in the 1st National Congress “Science for Business” – a nationwide event aimed at bringing together the scientific community, business, and administration. The Congress, organized by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the Łukasiewicz Research Network in cooperation with the National Centre for Research and Development, gathered thousands of participants in the EXPO XXI centre in Warsaw on the 19th -21st of November.
Scientists, entrepreneurs, politicians, leaders of the innovation sector talked, debated, learned about their potential, and sought opportunities for cooperation for three days. “Partnership. Action. Progress” was the motto of the event, the patrons of which were the representatives of all ministries in the government, with Prime Minister Donald Tusk at the head of the event who, during the opening, emphasized the importance of science for the development and security of Poland. The event was initiated by Prof. Marek Gzik, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education, present at the official opening.
– We need real bridges between laboratories and the market – the Congress “Science for Business” was created out of this need. It is an initiative that gives space for substantive dialog and building lasting partnerships between the worlds of science, economy, and administration, - said professor Gzik.
The Silesian University of Technology presented a wide range of its research and didactic possibilities at the Congress. At our stand, participants could get acquainted with projects implemented at the University, perspectives of scientific development, educational offer, and examples of cooperation with industry. Scientists from the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering and students from Silesian Phoenix, PolSl Racing and SKN Unmanned Student Clubs presented their innovative ideas. – I would like to thank our scientists and students for their great commitment, thanks to which during the Congress we could clearly show the importance of the Silesian University of Technology and our scientific and didactic potential. The event was attended by many partners from various sectors of the economy - technology, defence, IT and materials industry - which created an excellent opportunity to emphasize our strong position in the field of science, which is confirmed by the latest results of the rankings - emphasized Prof. Pawełczyk. – It is worth emphasizing the support of the Ministry, especially Minister Marek Gzik, initiator of the Congress and Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who had the opportunity to see the stands of the Silesian University of Technology. It is very important to build awareness that science plays a key role in the development of the country – added the Rector.
Prof. Marek Pawełczyk took part in a panel on key challenges and success factors in cooperation between universities and business. The debate focused on topics related to the competitiveness of the Polish economy, education and the labour market, and the impact of scientific research on development.
One of the participants of the congress was also the astronaut Dr Sławosz Uznański - Wiśniewski, the second Pole in space, who recently visited the Silesian University of Technology.
