Silesian University of Technology among Poland’s highest-ranked technical universities in THE World University Rankings 2027
SUT is among the highest-ranked technical universities in Poland in the latest edition of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2027. The University maintained its position in the 1001–1200 band worldwide, while ranking joint fifth among Polish higher education institutions.
This is the highest position achieved by a Polish technical university in this year’s ranking. AGH University of Krakow and Gdańsk University of Technology were also placed in the 1001–1200 band.
Four Polish universities were ranked higher: Wroclaw Medical University, in the 451–500 band; Jagiellonian University, in the 551–600 band; and the Medical University of Lodz and the University of Warsaw, both ranked 801–1000.
Alongside SUT, AGH University of Krakow and Gdańsk University of Technology, the 1001–1200 band also includes Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, the Medical University of Gdańsk and the Medical University of Warsaw.
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings assesses universities across five main areas: Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, Industry and International Outlook. The assessment is based on a range of indicators covering, among other factors, academic reputation, publications and citations, research activity, academic staff and students, international collaboration, research income from industry and patents.
As in the previous edition, SUT achieved its highest score in Research Quality, which reflects the quality and impact of the University’s research. In the 2027 edition, its score in this area increased from 50.7 to 52.5 points.
SUT also improved its performance in three other areas. Its Research Environment score rose from 17.7 to 20.1 points, Industry from 45.4 to 45.8 points, and International Outlook from 36.0 to 40.4 points. This means that the University improved its results in four of the five main areas assessed by Times Higher Education.
Given the University’s profile, its performance in Research Quality and Industry is particularly significant. The Industry indicator takes into account, among other factors, research income from industry and patents, while International Outlook assesses the international dimension of the academic community and research collaboration.
A total of 2,297 universities from 118 countries and territories were ranked in this year’s edition of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, including 44 Polish higher education institutions. Only universities meeting the eligibility criteria defined by Times Higher Education are included in the ranking.
The University of Oxford topped the global ranking for the eleventh consecutive year.
