Silesian University of Technology advances in the latest edition of the EngiRank 2024 ranking

In Brussels, the results of the prestigious European Ranking of Engineering Programmes - EngiRank 2024 - were announced. The Silesian University of Technology achieved high positions both in the overall ranking and across all engineering subjects, once again securing some of the top positions among Polish universities.

In the overall ranking, the Silesian University of Technology ranked 64th out of 226 institutions from the European Union, which were classified within 184 positions, marking an improvement of 15 places compared to last year. Nationally, the University placed 2nd, tied with Gdańsk University of Technology and Warsaw University of Technology. In the subject-specific rankings, the University achieved:

• 1st place in Civil Engineering (24th in the EU, an increase of 17 positions compared to 2023),
• 2nd place in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, and Information Engineering (56th in the EU),
• 2nd place in Environmental Engineering (67th in the EU),
• 3rd place in Materials Engineering (79th in the EU, an increase of 16 positions over 2023),
• 5th place in Medical Engineering (70th in the EU), and in the categories of Mechanical Engineering and Chemical Engineering (107th and 101st in the EU, respectively).

EngiRank is the first and only European ranking focused on key indicators for engineering education, aimed at training competent and socially aware engineers. It includes 226 engineering institutions and programmes from 27 EU countries, considering such factors as participation in Erasmus+ and Horizon programmes, commitment to sustainable development goals, collaborative research initiatives, and academic partnerships, such as those within European university consortia. The ranking also assesses cooperation with industry, joint research projects with the business sector, patent activity, and engineering accreditations (ENAEE, ABET).

The ranking is organised by the Perspektywy Educational Foundation, with international publishing house Elsevier as the main project partner.
