Security Day at the Silesian University of Technology

Silesian University of Technology focuses on the safety of the entire academic community, which is why, as in the previous year, we invite you to the Security Day.

Security Day of the Silesian University of Technology is an excellent opportunity to remind students, PhD students, and employees what security procedures operate at our University and what units take care of our safety. The event will take place on 11 May from 10.00-14.00 in front of the building of the Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering, and Industrial Automation (2A, Akademicka Street in Gliwice).

During the Safety Day, visitors will be able to broaden their knowledge of safety by visiting numerous stands of, among others:

· The State Fire Service;

· The Police;

· District Sanitary Inspector in Gliwice;

· The Social Insurance Institution;

· The State Labour Inspectorate;

· The Foundation “Zdążyc przed Rakiem;”

· Student Science Club: Office of Unrestrained Need for Safety Information”

· Student Science Club” Safe Wall;”

· Department of Safety Engineering (RG3);

· OHS - Occupational Health and Safety Inspectorate of Silesian University of Technology.

There will be experts waiting at the stands who will be happy to answer questions about dangerous situations and threats that may occur in the academic environment and tell you what actions to take in crisis situations.

At the stand of the Student Science Club “Safe Wall,” visitors will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the most important safety signs, such as fire, prohibition, order, warning, evacuation, and information signs. Practical tips on ergonomics and correct positioning will also be presented to help ensure comfort and health. Participants will also learn where key points such as the isolation facility, AED, and where to get help from people trained in first aid are located.

Students and employees of the Silesian University of Technology will also learn where to report accidents during classes at the university, who and how to control working conditions and education in laboratories, workshops, and teaching rooms, and where and when to implement the necessary OSH training.

During the Safety Day, participants will be able to:

· take part in first aid exercises

· learn how to use an AED

· practice rescue operations on training phantoms

· check how to react in the event of choking (act fast)

· see and test trauma kit equipment

· understand the simulation of injuries (artificial wounds)

· experience the simulation of the state of intoxication thanks to alcogoglogists and narcologlogists

· take part in activities related to the safety effects of alcohol and substances

· take advantage of virtual reality (VR) experience

· gain knowledge in the field of health and cancer prevention

· talk to specialists from public services and institutions

· visit educational sites prepared by organizations and science clubs
