Scientists of the Silesian University of Technology in the elite group of members of the Polish Academy of Sciences

The Vice-Rector for Science and Development, Professor Marek Pawełczyk has become a corresponding member of the Polish Academy of Sciences. To this function the General Assembly of the Polish Academy of Sciences has also appointed Professor Mieczysław Łapkowski from the Department of Physical Chemistry and Technology of Polymers of the Silesian University of Technology. Whereas, Professor Andrzej Katunin from the Department of Fundamentals of Machinery Design at the Silesian University, has become a member of the Academy of Young Scientists.

On 3 December the General Assembly of the Polish Academy of Sciences elected full members and corresponding members of the Academy of Young Scientists of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Professor Marek Pawełczyk, Vice Rector for Science and Development became a corresponding member of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The General Assembly of the Polish Academy of Sciences also appointed Professor Mieczysław Łapkowski from the Department of Physical Chemistry and Technology of Polymers of the Silesian University of Technology to this position. Whereas, Professor Andrzej Katunin from the Department of Fundamentals of Machinery Design at the Silesian University, has become a member of the Academy of Young Scientists.

The newly elected persons will hold their positions from 1 January 2022. They become a full or corresponding member for life. The term of office of a member of the Academy of Young Scientists is five years, with no possibility of re-election.

Members of the Academy of Young Scientists are elected by the General Assembly of the Polish Academy of Sciences from among scientists who are distinguished by special scientific achievements and authority, and who have an impeccable reputation.
