Scientists of the Silesian University of Technology at the "New Industry 4.0" conference

The "New Industry 4.0" and "Tech and Job" conferences were held at the International Congress Centre in Katowice with the participation of scientists from the Silesian University of Technology. The events took place as part of the International Trade Fair of Machine Tools, Tools and Processing Technology TOOLEX. The Silesian University of Technology is the institutional partner of the event.

Among the speakers from our University were: dr hab. Eng. Anna Timofiejczuk, prof. SUT - the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Andrzej Soldaty - director of the Centre of Industry 4.0. of the Silesian University of Technology and dr hab. Eng. Paweł Kasprowski, prof. of Silesian University of Technology - POB2 coordinator.

- The "New Industry 4.0" conference is a gathering of various groups of people, not only from industry, but from science. The event is attended by many representatives of the Silesian University of Technology and other universities in our region. Already in the inaugural session, there were many issues related to the development of competences, training of people, and keeping up with technological changes. Therefore, it is important that the university, when arranging study programs for industry, does not do it in isolation from industry. In the same way, the industry, developing technologies, should also closely cooperate with academic centres so that we simply know what the expectations are. Therefore, such conferences are extremely necessary - said dr hab. Eng. Anna Timofiejczuk, prof. SUT - the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

As part of the "New Industry 4.0" conference, participants discussed changes, challenges and the future of industry in Poland. - We want to talk about the forces that shape the new reality in industry, i.e. the impact of the environment and resource limitations, such as human or material resources.  We will also discuss new conditions of competition, we will also look for answers to the question of how the new generation of industry is to respond to these challenges - said Andrzej Soldaty, director of the Centre of Industry 4.0. of the Silesian University of Technology.

Conference participants also discussed future technologies such as artificial intelligence.

- Artificial intelligence is an opportunity for us, for development, also in industry. Of course, there are many risks that we need to be aware of. However, without artificial intelligence, i.e. all learning algorithms that replace humans in many tasks because they are faster and better, we would not be able to do it. In a few years, without artificial intelligence, we will not be able to do anything specific - said dr  hab. Eng. Paweł Kasprowski, prof. of Silesian University of Technology

As part of the International TOOLEX Fair, the "Tech and Job" conference was also held, during which the speakers discussed the situation on the Polish labour market for engineers and specialists. As every year, the fair was accompanied by the Environmental Seminar of Tribologists organized by the Polish Tribological Society, Silesian Branch and the Department of Rail Transport of the Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology. The main topic of the discussion was tribology in rail transport.
