Scientist of the Silesian University of Technology expands cooperation with the university in Malaysia

An employee of Silesian University of Technology has been appointed as an external evaluator of the “Mineral Resources Engineering” Specialization Programs at Universiti Sains Malaysia.

Dr Eng. Krzysztof Tomiczek from the Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering and Industrial Automation (Department of Geoengineering and  Resource Exploitation) has been appointed as  the “External Program Assessor” in study programs “Bachelor of Mineral Resource Engineering” (with Honours) at the Faculty of Raw Materials and Natural Resources Engineering of the Sains Malaysia University in Malaysia.

The duties of Dr Eng. Krzysztof Tomiczek will include an analysis of compliance with the specialization of study programs and the latest achievements of knowledge in this field.

Dr Eng. Krzysztof Tomiczek specializes, among others, in issues related to broadly understood geomechanics (also in the field of analytical and numerical solutions), strength and deformation properties of granular materials (primarily rocks), natural disasters in the context of seismicity, rock masses, earth structures, climate characteristics and natural environment issues. Dr Tomiczek carries out PBL student projects and student conferences with Asian universities. It is worth noting that cooperation with partners from South-East Asia is demanding, both in terms of content and logistics, and Asian universities are characterized by a high scientific level.

Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), with which the representative of the Silesian University of Technology will cooperate, is a public research university founded in 1969, being the second oldest institution of higher education in Malaysia. The university offers a wide range of academic programs and welcomes students from more than 80 countries, creating a global learning environment.

The Faculty of Raw Materials and Natural Resources Engineering, with which Dr. Tomiczek will cooperate, focuses on issues related to the extraction, processing and management of raw materials and environmental protection, with a special focus on the natural conditions of South-East Asia.

Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) ranks high in international university rankings. In the QS World University Rankings in 2024, the university was ranked 137th in the world, and in the US News Best Global Universities Ranking in 2024 - 401st in the world.
