Scientific Conference of the best scientists of TOP 2%

From 9 to 11 September, at the Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology, the First Scientific Conference of the best scientists in the world - TOP 2% took place. This event was organized as part of the celebrations of the European City of Science Katowice 2024.

This unusual scientific event was under the honorary patronage of the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, Prof. Dr Hab. Eng Marek Pawełczyk, President of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Katowice branch Prof. Dr Hab. M.D., Dr H.C. Andrzej Więcek and the Mayor of the City of Katowice Dr Eng. Marcin Krupa – host of the European City of Science. The curator of the Katowice Week, the originator and chairman of the organizing Committee of this conference was Dr Hab. Eng. Grzegorz Wojnar, Prof. of Silesian University of Technology

Each year, the group of 2% of the most influential scientists in the world is selected on the basis of accepted citation rates of publications in two categories: For the previous year and for the entire period of professional work. The research was initiated in 2019 on the basis of an article in the journal “PLOS Biology” by the authors from Stanford University, Elsevier and SciTech Strategies. As part of this conference, the presentation was submitted by 43 distinguished scientists from the world, a large part of whom work at universities that have their headquarters in Katowice or the Silesian region.
